So this morning I had all my ducks in a row. The laptop stand built and installed, rack on the bottom built and installed and the water drain/pump system set up and working. I wanted to test out some cuts to see how it was cutting for size and square, try a couple of different thicknesses of stock and and try cutting some aluminum as well.
First out of the gate was cutting some 16 Ga test pieces. 2 inch square and a 2 inch circle. Really happy with those. Little bit of dross on the backside but not much and pretty much dead on square and within a thou so
Next I did the same test cuts on some 3/16 aluminum I had and after playing with my speed got a couple of decent pieces cut. Definitely need more playing around but not bad for a first try.
Then I decided to try one of my rusty old pieces of 1/8 flat bar and cut out an F Bomb. Bit more dross on the back but came off easy. Just need to play with my speed I think. Cleaned up pretty good.
Finally I grabbed a chunk of 14 Ga (I think) and cut out a shop sign with my motto - If It’s Not Fun I’m Not Doing It
Good morning spent in the shop . All in all a pretty good test of the XL I think for an initial try. I’m super happy with it. I’m pretty sure it’ll get a lot of use and it’s the perfect size for my tiny shop. I give it a +10. Took a lot of time doing dry runs and set up. My Miller 375 Extreme is working out fine and my 28 gallon compressor is so far up to the job. Anything large and intricate though and I’ll probably need to think out my workflow and add pauses where necessary. Learning learning all the time learning.
