Rant - Fusion 360 becoming unusable in offline state

It used to be that I could have all my projects cached on my laptop (CF Pro brick pc, Home pc) and work on them at will, update whenever I make changes. Old files, no problem, always there. On or offline, smooth workflow.

Now I have to cache almost weekly…if I can get online (always remote except my home PC). Just went to work on a project I did back in march, and I have to go online to get it - even though I just cached everything again last week.

Also finding that Fusion is locking up my computers, even my high end gaming laptop with 2tb storage 64gb ram and high end processors (GPU and Intel). Click on a thing and there is a delay, or it flat out “Fusion is not responding”. Almost like it is trying to do everything via cloud instead of the PC doing the heavy lifting.

Way too many updates. They break more than they fix it seems like, or someone trying to justify their job by rolling out some sort of update every week or so.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I updated on Sept. 6th and they nagged me again today, 7 days later, that they needed to update.

My impression is that they update every Tuesday (if needed of course

The constant updates are annoying for sure; I close up Fusion only for it to ask me if I’d like to update (again).

I use it every other day, and lately I’ve been using it 7 days a week.

Zero issues at all with it.

Would it be at all possible to migrate over to the hobbyist version of solidworks? I know, it’s a paid license, but $45 a year if you sub on black friday…

Would be nice to be able to migrate to a single piece of software for the full workflow (minus cutting).

Fusion 360 is a powerful piece of software that the creator have allowed us to use for free for a long time I am personally appreciative that i have been able to use it to make money and i for one as soon as i can want to buy the full version. that is the reason they have let us use it as they have. so if we look at it as a temporary gift we will appreciate what we have had.

Totally agree. I held back in saying that for those on the “free/hobby” version are free to try out the wide assortment of programs that do CAD.

As for CAM, since there are really only two choices that work with the Langmuir tables, that is not Fusion’s responsibility.

I have a paid subscription for the the last two years. I budget for it since this is still a hobby for me; but even with some of the issues, I am not looking for another program.

(Note: I suspect the OP has the paid version as well).

A CNC mill is on the list of something to possibly add down the road and that’s what I think will prompt me to pay for Fusion.

Otherwise I agree. Very appreciative of the software being free as I’ve been on the hobby version all these years.

Just got done cutting this out an hour ago using Fusion for my CAD.
