Primeweld Cut60 Info

Gentleman, honest answer. Whoever owns a Primeweld Cut60, does it function correctly if you were to tap in for Raw voltage? If someone were to use the cnc port would that be a problem? This plasma cutter is killing our Motion Control Boards and I need feedback. Anything helps.

We always tell people to run raw straight to the lugs.

Raw from the CNC port is still going through some sort of filtering so we advise against it.

Ran a PrimeWeld CUT60 a few years without issue when I ran it raw straight to the lugs.

I was one of the guys who’s VIM burned out while running divided.

I’ve had mine hooked to the cnc port for about 3 years now, only problem I’ve ever had has been the THC after a year of use. Tried the USB isolator LM sent me but that seems to hap-hazardly lose connection to the control so ended up just doing the ground plug removal to fix that issue.

This is a picture of the divided voltage board. This has happened many times. Raw voltage is the way to go. Yes, it works for some but not for others. Why have this problem haunt you down the road.

I have 3 cut60’s. the first one I bought in 2019 when i first got into cnc plasma and the original 2x2 crossfire table using mach3 with the only issue was EMI when it was close to the control box (mach3 would hang with the torch lit) so i used a longer USB cable to place the cutter on the outside of the table, opposite the control box. issue solved

I then got the 1st batch PRO using the same cutter with no issues. In the summer of 2021, Dustin from Primeweld reached out to me asking similar questions about the compatibility between the Pro and Cut60 which i replied i had no issues but others have, specifically with the VIM box and wiring it for RAW voltage from the inside fixed the issue. He stated they were working on an updated version and if i would test it out prior to it’s release. He send me a pre-release cut60 and all i did was swap it out with the one i already had, still using the CNC port for divided voltage. no issues at all and still running it via the cnc port. He also asked me to do a lil write up on hooking it to RAW voltage in case people wanted to go that route, which i did and is the PDF floating around here and FB groups.

in 2023, Dustin asked if i would test the Cut60 Casey stated he was having issues with (which turned out, it was the mainboard that was faulty. could have been caused by that cut60, who knows). So he sends me that one and haven’t had any issues with that one, using the cnc port as well.

I alternate between the pre-release and Casey’s every once in a while, still using the original cnc connector from my original one, running divided voltage with no issues. i did wire the pre-released one for raw, but i have never used it.

I edited to add: I have an original intact motion control board, with NO mods to the L1 Inductor. I also use a longer USB cable and extension cables to extend the torch on/off and THC cables.

i’s hard to say what the actually cause of the VIM’s burning up but as Kwikfab stated, we usually just tell people to wire it for RAW voltage from the get go.

I have been using my CUT 60 since December 2021. My machine was one of the last ones sold before they released the more table friendly version. I wired it to the CNC port using the divided voltage. I never had a problem, but got nervous reading all the problems people were having so I wired it to the raw voltage inside the machine. I have bought an Everlast machine that I haven’t had a chance to even open yet. I might sell it… this house is kicking my butt and draining my wallet!

1st generation Cut60 on Raw voltage since new and for over 2.5 years of cutting on the Crossfire Pro. No issues related to this setup.
Only real issues I had getting started turned out to be Dell laptop graphics management vs Firecontrol.

I really do appreciate all the feedback and guidance you all give me.

I also have a gen 1 Cut 60 . I could not make the divided voltage work. I used the Cnc plug and the raw voltage taps. As of today I have not had any issues to note. I have both a regular and machine torches.
