Hi all
What’s the going price of a Used hypertherm xp45 these days?
Do people prefer the sync or the XP?
Dave
Well, you know used could be “barely used” and it could have been dropped off a table. Also, make sure it is 1 phase 220V.
I think as more people get the SYNC you might hear more positives about it. It is a great system especially if you have people that aren’t able to pay attention to the life of the consumables. The SYNC system is monitoring the cut and consumables and will help you know when the cartridge needs to be replaced. When you are first learning, the cartridge are going to run you into some money but once you are up and going, it is probably similar in consumable cost to the regular XP.
I have the 45XP and like that I can just change the particular consumable that is worn. I find that the nozzle wears faster than any other part so I monitor that and change it more often.
I would look on Ebay to get an idea of what a used machine is going for. You can look at “completed auctions” to get a more realistic idea of what machines sold and how high the auction got.
I know people that have both the SYNC and non-sync versions of Hypertherm (not of the 45XP) and they don’t complain one way or the other. I guess if I didn’t know the difference I would buy the SYNC and never look back.
Having bought one a few months ago (after looking around at pricing, comparing the XP with the Sync) I scored a brand new in box 45XP along with the $200+ consumable set all for $1,800.
Average going rate I noticed in the used market (around me) was $2,000 with a lot of use, and no consumables (or at least, no new consumables).
Think ahead about all you’ll want or need to spend when adapting it to your table as well. Are you fine running the hand torch? Do you want to go machine torch? Do you want to tap into the wiring yourself, or do you want a plug and play solution?
These are things you should consider first before deciding if you go used, or if you buy a new bundle.
If I recall correctly, the 45XP with no CPC port, and just a hand torch, was going between $2,400 - 2,500. It was just over $2,825 for the 45XP with a CPC port and just a machine torch meaning no hand torch to cut stuff with off table.
The 45Sync with no CPC port, and just a hand torch, is going for $2,800.
The CPC port can be had for $115 - 140 alone.
A machine torch will run an average of $825+.
Didn’t even plan to buy my Hypertherm when I did. I just jumped on it because it was brand new and cheap making the decision easy to buy the stuff I wanted to add. Got the CPC port on sale from Welding Supplies from IOC, and the machine torch on sale from Baker’s Gas - both items were purchased for less than the prices I posted above and the sale happened at the same time I got my machine
As far as the machines themselves, you can’t go wrong with either. They’re great, and both will give you a ton of pierces.
Friend averages 1,900 pierces on his Sync65 regardless if it’s the regular consumable cartridge, or finecut.
Right now I’ve got 978 pierces on my consumable set on my 45XP but I haven’t had to cut anything lately so I’m sure there’s some more life left.
Even then, they’re cheaper than cartridges. So cheap that I keep consumable sets together as if they are a cartridge. Here’s my regular mechanized set, and my finecut set.
Thanks for the info on your experience. And your thoughts on pricing is what’s been running through my mind that the deal that’s being offered ($1800) isn’t really that great of a deal
Dave
Without knowing more, it’s hard to say.
It could come with the CPC port and machine torch, then sure that’s a great deal.
It could be barebones just for the power supply itself, then that’s pretty much a bit cheaper than retail for a new one.
All depends on what you get and the condition.
Generally speaking, they don’t really go for much less than new.
Seems the older style will fall under $2k -
The latest version with digital display is right at the $2k and above mark -
And here’s one with CPC port and machine torch -
I actually found several more than these, but pricing was about the same and these are all within a 500 mile radius.
