No Torch Fire on new XR

Tried to make my first cuts tonight on my new XR with a Hypertherm powermax 65 amp cutter (all bought together through Langmuir) and I cant get the torch to fire. First noticed it when trying to do the THC test and it wouldn’t arc, but even when I tried to manually fire the torch (through the machine) I hear a click (I assume relay in the box) but nothing from the cutter itself.

I checked all the connections on cutter and box, and the cutter is grounded to the stock.

I guess the next step is to run a continuity test on the cable from the table to the cutter? or is there some other step I am missing?

@ajturbo welcome to the forum

Not to be a jerk. I’ve just seen it happen before, but check to make sure the machine is on and in the right cutting mode.

Make sure it’s not in a fault status and locked out .

With the torch in a safe position you should be able to short the ends of the cable running from the CPC port to the langmuir electronics enclosure and get the torch to fire. ( removed at the electronic enclosure end)

Do you have the long cable from the CPC plugged into the “torch on/off” port on the electronics enclosure?

I know it sounds like a silly question, but many people have plugged it into the plastic VIM box by mistake.

Sorry I thought I deleted this this morning before anyone caught my stupidity :melting_face:

There is a switch on the machine torch for the powermax that was hidden behind the cover on the gantry that was off. turned that on its its cutting nicely. Although its does splatter a ton when the cut finishes and the air stays on for about 10 seconds. That appears to be from the cutter itself and not changeable easily. Are there any other solutions for the splatter?

Thank you both

You could try to quickly use the arrow keys to move the torch to an area that still has metal underneath it

The post flow is to cool the torch and prevent damage. The only solution is to move the torch to be over some uncut metal after it finishes. You could also keep a small piece of metal handy to put under the torch after it finishes.
