New Range, crappy installation

We finally ‘retired’ our 14 year old kitchen range with a new ‘slide in’. Well, the ‘slide in’ wasn’t as clean as we expected and this is what the installer left us with:

Needless to say we weren’t pleased but all the installer had to ‘offer’ was that we could buy a ‘trim kit’ from Kitchen Aid and that would cover up the gaps. After researching we discovered that the additional $100 ‘trim kit’ was nothing more than aluminized plastic stickon strips and the Interweb was full of complaints about it.

So… having a CNC Plasma cutter lead me to the obvious solution to this problem. Here is what I was able to do with some 20Ga Stainless, some 3M VHB tape, and, for completeness, two resin printed Bullnose caps:

The Back Trim was over 30 inches long, but was a relatively easy Indexed cut job for my 2x2. The 3D Printed caps will be painted to be more harmonious with the countertop (eventually). Since that’s my wife’s task, I’m not too concerned about that aspect

Nice! … Good for scoring points too!

Points? Points? What on earth do you mean?
