So my little Makita compressor with a extra 30gal tank just wasn’t cutting it. The Makita is rated at 6.5cfm but it just couldn’t keep up. Asked around and scored an old very used gas compressor not ideal but it was free with some traded welding work this new one puts out 24cfm . My next cut was a large one took about 10 mins. I posted the video on youtube
Seriously impressive piece of work
That is really nice work, Brian. Is this for a customer of yours?
Any shots of the compressor?
No just for my sister her husband is the firefighter.
The compressor was off a old heavy equipment service truck. I fabricated and tig welded up a 50 gallon diesel tank for trade. The compressor is not pretty but it works. Been looking at the Eastwood scroll compressor since they are so quiet by the price on those…
@langmuir-daniel thanks again for getting those bearings out ASAP
I am sure they will love it!
The compressor looks like it’s made to work hard all day long. Ive often thought about getting a gas powered air compressor for my home shop based on the impressive CFM numbers they have and the fact that they are probably cheaper to run than an electric one. But the noise has always been a concern. How loud is it when its running?
For what its work I have a Quincy QT54 and bang for the buck this is a nice unit. Made in the USA, Baldor motor. V4 two stage. A very nice compressor for the money. I regulate down to 90 PSI and the tank cycled roughly 140-170. Keeps up with a my blast cabinet with not issues even cycles off as I keep blasting.
It’s a 2 stage so the compressor part is way quieter than the makita but the engine does make some noise it’s a 12.5hp Kohler just has a normal lawn tractor sound once it hits the limit psi it does idle down a bit. Been thinking about making a exhaust for it to make it even more quiet. So far my neighbors haven’t complained.
I have exactly the same compressor and I absolutely love it. Huge upgrade from my Craftsman oil free
What thickness material were you cutting and what speed were you cutting as well? Looks GREAT!
Very nice work, turned out great. I have been the new Eastwood 30/60 scroll air compressor for about 6 months now and love it. Extremely quiet, sounds about a window AC unit. Have used it for cabinet blasting and never have run out of air yet.
@tmarshall 16ga and I’m running 250Ipm
@Rustynuts yes that is the one I want some day. It’s so nice having enough air. So many compressors on the market can’t even keep up with a D/A
I’ve been looking at that 30/60 Eastwood Scroll as well. Figure this old compressor is going to give out one day, and for what it cost to replace it I could buy that one and mount the compressor unit to the top off the 80 gallon tank.
This was very informative! Thanks for sharing !!
+1 on the Quency, I have the QT5 80 gallon dual stage (175psi dialed down to 125 at the 1" line that feeds 4 drops which then are dialed down to 90). It is as loud as a stock muffled harley at idle. I have had it for 5 years now, I’m very pleased with it, never once wished I had bigger. Air is very very dry too (has to do on how I set up my lines as well but even the water separator at the tank outlet doesn’t get much water at all).
you in Arizona? hell yeah im over in Laveen!
