Nc file conversion

I found file on Fileshare “Land of the Free, Home of the Brave” i would like to cut for a fundraiser, however it is only available nc/g code for XR and it is too big for my table. Is there anything i can do to convert this file back to svg or dwg or resize it. I did contact the designer but 2 year old post.

Try to use code Ripper. Could give you the start of a dxf that you have to do some repairs too.

You can also rescale in fire control. That isn’t always the best option.

yup…Firecontrol has the ability to resize it….called “scale”

@MnEnterprise and explain why this isn’t always the best option not only will it scale down the drawing itself but the Keef width and the lead in lengths will all scale proportionally. This can have some undesired results, like divots at the starts or letters falling out. But this all depends on how much you scale it down.

This is true. There are issues with using a code ripper as well. One you have to go delete all lead ins and outs because it will make them part of the drawing. Make sure you tell the ripper to exclude the rapids or you will need to remove them as well. Then the biggest issue is losing the dimensions because of kerf width compensation in the previous cam process. This can be easily fixed just a small hoop must be jumped through.

This should help you get started. I made it 31 inches tall. If you are looking for cut-ready, this is not that. This still needs work on the lettering.

Edit: This needs lots of work. The SVG conversion added lots of extra lines!!!. Sorry…probably not that helpful.

It is a starting point, i will look at this and see if it is something that is worth the work or possible coming up with our own design or another Flag file. It goes without saying all of you are always so willing to help and generosity of you time and talents

Here is a better version. At least the stars are more symmetric. It still requires lots of work: Highlight all the inside contours and delete. When you are finished, you might have a decent sketch.

Here is an example of highlighting one of the stars:

Delete it:

Now you can see how that will show up. You will also see that I have removed some of the other inside lines that are not helpful. It is just a tedious proposition:

@ChelanJim how did do work through this? Did you trace the image or use a ripper?

I grabbed the image off NC viewer.

I then took that image to PaintShop to sharpen and make only 2 colors. That eliminated the orange leads and rapids.

Then I loaded the image as a canvas in Fusion. I let the Salvador program create the sketch.

That is where it is at now.:upside_down_face:

Looks like about 2yrs ago I asked the poster on Fireshare to upload a dxf or svg. No reply.

Etsy has quite a few with the same theme.

Home of the Free Land of the Brave Dxf File - Etsy

Here are two fairly simple to cut versions:

Land of the Free Home of the Brave Svg Png Files, Fourth of July Svg, Patriotic Svg, America Svg, Eagle Svg - Etsy

Land of the Free Home of the Brave Instant Digital Download Cut File for Cricut, Silhouette & More - Svg - Eps - Dxf - Png - Etsy

I like those Bret, especially this one:

I worked on that original image a bit more but all of the lettering really needs work. If I were to cut this project, I would erase the letter and start from scratch:

I know if someone is starting out with CAD/CAM design, it might seem overwhelming but it is a reasonable project to dip your toe in the water, so to speak.

Here is what I would start with:

HofTFreeLetterFree.f3d (765.1 KB)

Here is an example of how the font would look (I just grabbed a font and would not necessarily use this font.

Or perhaps this:

Ha! I made a simplified version of that and it was the last sign I cut before I put my cutter to bed for the Winter in December. Just recently painted it, but not happy with the outcome. Going to repaint it.
