Hello again, I am a metal sculpture wanna-be, and am curious about this dog, which is a thing of real beauty. Do you first create a metal frame inside to weld your pieces to? The eagle & raptors are also amazing.

Nearing completion on a small batch of these racks with panels. The number of prototypes required to get this perfect is pretty wild. I’m using the XR, Titan and Vulcan. There’s days where I’m just running in triangles from one to the other. No idea what I was doing before I had these machines.

Thank you

I welded each piece together no frame. when I cut it out I left all the pieces on the table then looked at the diagram they send with the file and put the corresponding number on each piece. I started with the head just tack welding each piece. There was times i had to cut the tack weld apart and tweak pieces. Lots of grinding and some bondo to finish it off. I mig welded it but if I do another one I will tig it and spend more time on precision.

Good luck and if you really enjoy it, the one guy on Esty is asking a lot of money for a finished Doberman

Thank you for the response. Where the heck do you buy the diagrams? I did not realize there was such a source. Your work is a serious compliment to their design skills. I can see hundreds of hours put into this dog. Did you free hand cut the pieces or plug the diagrams into a cnc, and if so what are you using? You need to take the credit, pal, that is beautiful workmanship.

Thanks for the reply. What kind of brake is shown here, and do they sell that jogging die for doing the deep bends?

It’s the Langmuir Titan and yes. They sell all the dies and punches including the gooseneck pictured.

Can I ask where you bought your templates? I wouldn’t be selling what I make. Just give it to family and friends. Been luckier in my life than a guy like me could have ever hoped for.

While y’all were keeping warm today, I was fooling around with spot welding with my fiber laser. I started tacking scrap, then welded some nuts together, added a wire mesh, finally some bolts and came up with this. Was going to give it away to a sailing friend but the more I look at it, the more I like it.
