Maybe I missed something, but if I didn’t miss something I do have a fix, but curious what others have found / done.
The bearing rails for the material supports don’t seem to have any stops to keep them from running right off the ends which as we all know can not be put back on. If I missed a part / step let me know.
Short term I backed out the two end bolts to stop the bearings. Long term I figure I’ll cut a couple plates and tap them into the side uprights unless someone has a better solution.
@fiberconnect You didn’t miss anything, there aren’t travel stops. I did the same thing as you backing out the end screws. This was after I ran an arm off the linear rail while loading tooling…luckily only lost 4 or 5 bearings. Seems fine still though.
I may have a solution for you if you have a 3D printer. I’ll know in 90 minutes once the test parts come off the X1C. If it works I can share the files with anyone that wants to print some end stops.
It’s already a pretty tight fit, so I only installed one of the heat set inserts on the pair I put on my machine, it’s not going to move unless I hit it hard enough to break it, and normal banging into by the bearing blocks has no effect on it. If I change my mind or strip out the first inserts I’ll just install the other insert.
Was not hard to drill and i took my time tapping it. I have champion drills & taps usually and thats what I used this time. If you need all the travel then you can just drill & tap the rail from the sides and use a large washer to keep it from sliding off as well.
I only drilled the rail, no reason to go all the way thru
When drilling thru the top like I did, you could tell that they are hardended out once past the surface then they drilled & tapped just find. You just have to go slow. I was going to end drill but will never need the supports out that the 1/2" would make a difference
