Marks on the rails from the carriage

I just got my table running this weekend for the first time. All I have done is run the break in program and some other random jogging. I’ve not cut anything yet. I’m surprised at the marks that the bearings are leaving on the rails. Is this normal? I will say that I noticed that only one bearing on each side was touching the rail, so I followed the procedure to tighten them.

@mikeg77 welcome to The forum.

Not all the bearings will touch the rail at the same time the system is designed to make up for slight deflection in the rail.

It is normal to get some marking and wear from where the bearings are hitting on the rail.

There’s kind of a sweet spot between having your bearings tension against the rail too tight and too loose. You want it tight enough and not have any play but loose enough that it will glide effortlessly down the rail.

I would suggest hitting those rails with some silicone spray I would also hit the lead screws.

Thanks for your reply.

I definitely had play in the boom before tightening the bearings. I might have them too tight now. I’ll go back and take another look at it.

That one spot looks pretty bad. I don’t have that style rail. Is there anything else that could be rubbing?
That seems pretty pronounced in that one spot to be made by a bearing rolling down the rail.

Maybe the pic makes it look worse then it is.

I’m seeing the same thing. The scrapes are bad enough to go through the powder coat. I’m going to play with the bearing tension today. Thanks for the input on this topic!
