Leveling caster wheel mod

That looks like a viable option. Is there a mechanical travel lock or is the platform held up only by the hydraulic relief valve? Was the rated 34.5" of lift enough to engage with the bottom of the chip tray or did you need to use blocks?

No mechanical lock, at least that I’m aware of. Picked up the machine without any additional blocking. The deck fits in between the factory drain outlet as well.

WOW I really thought about this but the legs are so weak when moving side to side it scared me. Are you running bracing above those casters?
I made a bone head move and put this together to close to the wall and needed to move it so I used a few 2x’s and jacked it up then moved it slooooowly but casters might be a great idea. Anyone here had experience moving the XR table??

I acknowledge that dynamic loads when moving hundreds of lbs of concrete are a different beast, but is there any reason to be concerned about the legs in a side loaded static condition? For example, if you lean on your machine, do the legs deflect/does the machine chip tray move?

It would be great if you would share the dimensions / drawing of the base you constructed. I want to build one prior to delivery of my MR-1.

Hello All!
It seems that everyone wants a way to move a precision CNC machining center around! I do not have one yet, but my question is this (are you checking the tram in the spindle each time you move it?). If you aren’t you should! As a lot of you may have operated a machining center you know it is important to keep the spindle trammed if you want nice true drilled holes and vertical milled side walls. It may not move much because of the amount of concrete used but I think a quick sweep each time would be a good idea. I have worked on some heavy-duty machines (Haas, Milltronics, Fadal, Onsrud and a couple others) and if there was a booboo involving the spindle being bumped hard from the side or anytime the machine was moved even just a little the first thing to happen was to check tram.
Just my two cents.

@safety3rd have you found any issues with this? I’m hoping to do the same on my machine, just to get it off the pallet and move it to position where it will live forever. My shop is really, really small and I have minimal heavy moving equipment and am receiving a fully assembled MR-1.

No issues yet. That said, I am considering relocating the mill to position that would involve crossing concrete expansion joints, which makes me a little nervous.

@WorkNPlay,

re the HaulMaster hydraulic table, did you move a fully assembled MR1. That is more than 1,000lbs.
Thanks,

Sbdon

Yes, it moves it no problem fully assembled. I don’t have the enclosure so I think I’m just under 1000 pounds.

I’ve always assumed that I’d add casters when I need them (borrowing/renting a lift table to install them) and figured I would add bracing when I get to that step.

I bought a set of the -80 casters and returned them because the ones that I got didn’t have a locknut to make the leveling foot rigid. The thread was pretty loose and I thought it would introduce more wobble. I got the ratchet style feet, but maybe the non-ratchet style have a locknut and work better.

I could go years without moving the machine, so I decided to back burner casters and just focus on getting the machine working.

I did the larger casters proposed in the original post. Not a good idea. Moving the machine is super sketchy. I was simply rolling it on smooth concrete in my garage. Quite dangerous. I would not recommend the original approach to anyone. I will be coming up with a different approach if I ever need to move the machine.
