Hey yall, bear with me on this one, its a lot of explanation. I am cutting some shelf brackets out of 10g carbon steel, XR, hypertherm sync 65, 65 amp normal cartridge(428930). i have been experiencing strange behavior. i will list the issues and kind of explain.
torch pausing, no alert or alarm.
cut pausing, telling me my peirce time is too short or too long.
torch firing. about 1/2" into cut.
ihs trouble.
bad quality cuts. not terrible but just a bit off.
machine starts running without firing torch upon pressing start.
screen showing voltage before torch contacts cut surface.
I followed the book settings for 10g
cut height .125
peirce height .150
peirce delay 0.1
and i accidently put the high production speed of 225ipm
air pressure 76psi
during the cut i bumped the speed down to 135 and i was liking the cut quality and then it started travelling before torch fire. i checked all connections and ihs module and everything looks and feels good. I also changed my torch cartridge.
it seems all sorts of gremlins appeared out of nowhere.
still havent mastered the lead ins. .25 lead in with arc.
Wow cut height on sync is 0.125. Far as torch travel before firing could be cam setting or Emi interference.
I have the Hypertherm powermax 45 xp on my XR. I’m not familiar with the sync machines, you have the machine mode set to cut not gouging?
Is that 76 psi what you are feeding into the machine? The specs call for at least 110psi into the machine with the minimum required pressure being 75psi. You could be dropping below the minimum and causing the failure to fire.
I have 125 to the machine and the hypertherm allows you to set it to 76 via internal regulation. At least there’s an air setting on the hmi that lets me pick a number. I believe it’s internal regulation.
I measured it with a gauge. Yeah, I noticed voltage before the cut, 0-10 bouncing around. When I pulled the ground from material it dropped to zero. Not sure if that’s crappy. I checked to see if the computer and controller was somehow grounded to the machine but there was no continuity between the table and the electronics.
I also have the live voltage jumping around with the plasma grounding the work piece. I haven’t had time to troubleshoot it. So I’m following this thread. I also have a hypertherm sync. I have the 85. Which souldnt matter at all. When I get time I’m going to go through the Trouble shooting matrix.
Only thing I can think is my torch is somehow grounding to the machine causing some sort of continuity to the ground. I am not great with electrical so I might make some pretty wild assumptions. Upon resetting fire control and the control computer it went back to zero. It doesn’t seem great. I checked all connections. Could my torch lead resting on the frame of the table possibly put off some EMF that is causing a voltage reading? I kinda think that may be having an effect. My torch lead is kind of looped around all goofy under the table and it is resting on the bottom frame rail a bit.
