Larger Lead Screw?

Hay guys, I am working on adding some expansion kits to my table to make it a Pro basically. I need to get a longer gantry lead screw and I’m thinking that because it will be getting two times longer than the OG one i should look at going to a larger screw. Has anyone gone to a 1/2" screw or do you guys think id be ok just going with the stock size?

my feeling on a longer thicker screw…that sounds naughty…
seriously…if you go longer and take it up a diameter. You will have to deal with possible sag due to the weight and length of the screw…then that puts friction strain on the teflon/plastic gantry coupler at the shaft.
you would get early wear on that part I feel.

@MattD I have 6 ft 1/2" lead screws on my build. I get some whip when at 300 ipm near max travel but no whip at cutting speeds (<150 ipm).
