Is this caused by air solenoid?

I am having an inconsistent torch misfire. I feel like I have had these issues for years and can’t figure it out. I only have maybe 12 cut hours on the machine. Bought July of 2021. It will cut perfectly fine for many pierces and then have issues. A dry fire will tend to help and then go back to cutting.

It seems like you have a history with this machine. I see that you had this solenoid replaced.

Any chance you can post the G code you’re using during the cut in the video?

Is there anyway you could use another plasma cutter and torch on your Langmuir so we can clearly determine whether it’s the Langmuir side or the prime Weld side causing the issue.

Or potentially trying a different torch.

I noticed on your earlier videos you had it clamped too low which seems that you’ve corrected now maybe there’s a chance you’ve done some damage to the torch.

I forgot that primeweld sent out a new machine. I did have it clamped too low, however I had an electrode take out the torch since then so I don’t think that is the issue. I can often hear the solenoid click but the air doesn’t stop when I have the misfire. I am unable to reproduce the issue with the set air switch on the unit, though.

I can try the hand torch again and see if that makes a difference. It always seems like a plasma issue and not a table issue. This is only a hobby, but if a hypertherm would solve all my issues, It might just be worth it.

Try a hand torch if you have it.

Try another machine temporarily if you can get a hold of one.

What’s the static air pressure that you’re delivering to the machine ?

what’s the dynamic air pressure while running machine?

Both measured at the machine not the compressor.

85 static

78 air flowing

Let us know how this works out.

Those numbers look good

Hear that noise it makes when it does fire? That is a bad electrode, even if its new if it makes that noise its bad and will cause misfires.

Good call.

I should not have assume that OP used new consumables.

Why else would someone take it out but to replace it?

@mechanic416 do you think electrode was bad from the get-go? Usually when they wear out the flame starts getting a green tinge.

I have seen brand new electrodes not fire at all for some reason. Primeweld electrodes seem to do this a lot.

hand torch had no misfires. Ill need to cut a couple more files to be more certain.

Did you take the consumables out of the machine torch and put them into the hand torch?

Just making sure that this is NOT a consumable issue

If you are using the same consumables then it’s likely the blowback function of your machine torch is intermittently jamming up.

I did put new consumables in, didn’t think of using the same. However, I had been having the inconsistent issue with every set of consumables I’ve used for the last year or longer. So I don’t think that is the issue as the hand torch has been working perfectly. I kept thinking it was moisture related as my consumables have always looked terrible and never lasted long at all. But having changed nothing else the electrode looks much better.

I have a compressor after cooler, refrigerated dryer, 2 desiccant driers and a motor guard. So moisture shouldn’t have been an issue but have been chasing my tail.
