Inkscape to Sheetcam

I have a confusing question about files from inkscape to sheetcam,
Can you send a file from inkscape to sheetcam without tracing the bitmap? I just did that on accident and it looks like it worked. I just wasnt sure if it would create some sort of issue. The lines in inkscape are just lines not paths. It seems like sheetcam processed it no problem. Hope this makes some sort of sense.

I saved a line drawing as a dxf and sent it straight to sheetcam. Ive never done that. just wondering if it will cut.

Trace bitmap is really only for tracing image files, like jpg or PNG images.

There is no reason to do that with SVG files. Most SVG files, like the ones produced by Inkscape, will work in Sheetcam.

If you want to perform any path operations on the file in Inkscape, you have to convert to a path. Path operations are things like “difference” and “Union”.

I usually have to manipulate drawing so much. This was a simpler drawing that I just had to nest. Just felt weird. good to know. Thanks for the info!

a few months ago I was helping a sheetcam client with some odd behavior of imported svg from InkScape. The conclusion of my tests at that time, with v7.1.40 of sheetcam, is that it seems best to use dxf format instead of svg. This may be a general sheetcam preference. I found that to be the case with LightBurn also, although the svg ‘got-cha’ use cases were different, had to do with the svg sometimes having spline vs. bezier arc coding, sheetcam is better at converting one or the other to polyline. I believe dxf is more apt to use polyline coding for arcs, the native arc drawing representation for sheetcam.
