Inkscape letter spacing

Having an issue with my letters being too close together on Inkscape results in letters bleeding into each other when cut. I have tried using the spacing feature under the text department but when I adjust with the “+/-” keys nothing happens and when even tried just putting in numbers into the space. I’ve watched a few youtube videos but my problem persists. HELP ME FORUM-KENOBI’S, You’re my only hope. Any info would be great.

Here’s a video that shows you how to do it. Note that the ‘letters’ NEED to be Text, not text that has been converted to Path. And you need to select the corresponding text box.

NARP!!! I’ve watched this video and still nothing!!! I even deleted the text box and started over when I put numbers in the spacing box nothing happens. Next idea.

Convert the text to a path. Use the path/break apart function to break them into individual letters. Any letters with multiple parts will need to be combined again before moving them.

You can then space the letters individually. You can select the letter and use the arrow keys to move them. You can also create a small box and size it to the distance you want between the letters and use it as a spacer. When you are done, delete the spacer box and either group or combine the letters.
