Inkscape drawing to sheetcam issue

A little help appreciated!

This is a new issue I am having.

I create a drawing in inkscape, save it as a dfx as I have been.

I click import drawing on the file in sheetcam and I dont see it anywhere in sheetcam. I have zoomed out to try to find it but no luck. Thanks in advance!!

  1. Maybe your saving as SVG and not DXF.

  2. Make sure your hitting apply in Inkscape or you might see the image but it won’t create a trace bitmap which will give you a blank image.

As Don suggested, always save as SVG in Inkscape. Sheetcam will open either one, but SVG is much more reliable coming from Inkscape.

There are a bunch of versions of DXF and Sheetcam doesn’t like some of them.

I must have skipped trace bitmap! I did that it it was able to load in sheetcam. Thank you!

so SVG is by far a better file format when working with artistic things…
there is a big differance in the node count when talking about SVG and DXF.
a DXF curve is actually made up of multiple/hundreds of short lines creating nodes…
A SVG file is a mathematical formula between points…
here is an example of the differance

so instaed of processing 4 nodes your gcode will be a lot larger and mor complex with DXF.

DXF is great for technical precise parts to be cut…I use it all the time for that…but I prefer SVG for ease of modification…and for processing.
