I am just now finishing my new XR build in Sept. 2025. I’ve read all the posts from the past 7 years or so about all the leveling problems on the Langmuir forum as well as the internet. Seems most were experienced on the Pro model. After putting about 12 gallons of water in my XR to check for leaks (none so far) I saw that all of the water stays in the front third of the water table, deepest on the control end. After draining it all through an emergency drain I installed, it still has 1/2” of water standing in the front. SO ! It seems to be level side to side, or very close, at least visually. Seems like lowering the far end on the Y axis and raising the near side would correct the problem which I’m about to do. No idea yet how all this manipulation will affect the gantry itself. Before I start, any thoughts, comments, or warnings from other users with their experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. Terry
The gantry being perpendicular to the work material itself should be priority, although ensuring you have no twist to minimal twist on the frame is also important.
Not everyone’s garage or shop is perfectly level which is why many tables come with leveling feet.
I have a XR and move it all the time. I fill it to the first water pan reinforcement and use that water level to level the table. I have done this since day one and have never had any problems. I get it with in a 1/8” I would guess. Once level I fill it the rest of the way
Leveling is about making sure you have sufficient amount of water covering every sq inch of your table bed. No water? Count on pierce through.
The frame that the gantry rides on pretty much ‘floats’ on most of the tables.
