I just want to thank everyone that has helped me since I joined the family of Langmuir but my shop burned to the ground early Tuesday morning. I lost 30 years of equipment and I don’t think I’m going to start over. insurance won’t cover have of it. Thanks to each of you and carry on also everyone check their insurance policies I wouldn’t want anyone to be in my shoes
My condolences. That’s rough.
If you decide not to start over, I hope you find some equally enjoyable past times to fill the void.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Insurance company’s are a large scam operation. Also the banks and government is part of it by mandating insurance on autos, trucks, homes, etc. Been down the road a few times with insurance claims they didn’t want to cover.
Very sorry for your loss. The insurance company won’t cover it due to the Plasma table?
Man that’s rough, hope things look up in the future. Best of luck to you Max
You are still part of this family. We are sharing in you loss and are saddened. Keep us posted.
Yea my building is covered and contents are too but I didn’t have enough coverage to be able to get everything back. Does anyone know if I’ll still able to get my files out of fusion? I know everything that was in firecontrol will be gone. I haven’t been able to get in there yet but I’m sure both my computers are toast.
If you sign on with the same username and password, all of your files will be there.
Thank you I do not post much but I always find valuable information and solutions to most problems I run into
Ok awesome if I do decide to rebuild it will be nice to have all my work back.
Good luck, my friend. We are always here for you.
Thank God the insurance is covering the majority. I thought they pulled a Fast one on you due to the plasma table.
It’s just stuff ,a lot was sentimental but no one was hurt and the fire department kept it from getting to the house. I’m very thankful for that
Sorry man, that’s terrible. How did it happen?
I knew a very strong, courageous, old lady who was a commercial fisherman with her husband. They were also our landlords. They spent the fishing season in Alaska, just the two of them. And the rest of the year they lived in an apartment attached the house we rented here in Washington.
When she was a little girl, her home burned down. Fast forward to the time I knew them:
They owned the house we were living in and had abandoned their other home as the cliff edge was getting closer every year (the bank was all sand and would sheer away feet per year just due to wind erosion). Eventually, it was condemned and they asked the volunteer firefighters to burn it for practice.
She was in tears during the burning. She admitted that every time she sees a house on fire, it brings her back to that tragic moment in her life. It was heart wrenching to see her reaction.
Depending on the heat, your computers and some of your equipment may be salvageable.
The PC hard drives may have survived, just need to get them out of the carcass and install in the appropriate external drive, then you can treat it like a standard folder you can search in. The directory will be the same, just a different drive letter.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Such a hard thing to go through! Our tractor mechanic had a shop fire years ago. He was the lead mechanic at the local Deere dealer but moonlighted out of his own shop for years. He had his own service truck and had just gone off on his own when he had the fire. Unfortunately, his shop wasn’t insured as a business, as such the insurance company wasn’t liable for it or its contents. He was devastated… every time he walked out the back door and saw the rubble, he was depressed… He and his wife decided to get out of town for a couple of days. While they were gone people who apparently thought it was all covered by insurance rummaged through tools etc. and stole anything that was salvageable. He came home to nothing… My dad had two tractors at his shop… fortunately the only one inside the shop was an older machine we didn’t use allot. My dad told him not to worry about the tractor and to get what he could for salvage out of it. Then for Christmas that year, my dad got a couple other customers/neighbors together to buy him a new Miller/bobcat welder. I still remember when my dad got the call from him on Christmas morning… He was sobbing talking to my dad, so humbled and appreciative. He eventually ended up giving my dad a disc as trade for the tractor and we had a great mechanic for years going forward… I am sure my dad’s contributions to the purchase of that welder paid for itself many times over through the years.
He eventually rebuilt and was able to get back out on his own again but it took years. I guess I am telling you this because you should watch out for your stuff… there are some terrible folks out there who will try to take advantage of your situation… BUT keep your chin up. You can come back from this… and there are allot more good folks out there who will be there for you!
Well said Erik!
Thanks for the advice and inspiration. I am pretty down about it now but I know that it will be better after the insurance settlement is done and I can decide which road I’m going to travel.
I want to give everyone an update. The fire marshal finished their investigation today and the cause of the fire was a lithium battery on a charger I was floored by it. I’m sure everyone done the same thing I done left the batteries on the charger so they would be ready when I needed them so I will never leave batteries charging unattended ever again, take my advice from this costly experience unplug the charger or at least take the battery off them when you are not working around them. A few minutes of waiting on another battery is not worth loosing what you worked so hard for or possibly your family’s life if I hadn’t woke up when I did it could have spread to my house
This is why they tell you not to put a electric car in your garage, they can catch fire.
