I order this from Alibaba, https://x.alibaba.com/BLEQ?ck=pdp 2500 series, with the Trade Assurance, delivered to my door in 6 weeks for $527.00. It’s rated for 220vac but came with a Schucko EU type plug which is neutral and 220vac line with a ground. With the magic of AC voltage and the first thing the power hits is a massive Toroidal transformer. The US voltage of 2 legs of 120vac can be run with one leg on the hot and the other on the neutral. Both lines are switched on/off by the switch. From factory the hot is fused but I’m adding a second fuse for the other leg of 120vac. ( Ok’d by manufacturer to do this) Added a longer 14/3 power cord. It works great. 8mm stud max capacity.
keep us posted .
I ve been wanting a stud gun for sometime.
Any example projects?
Tin, I believe the general consensus is you that are the ‘digital stud’ around here.
That original plug screams 50Hz. I’m not sure of the consequences if any at all.
Those stud welders simply charge up that capacitor bank. Dumping the charge is what performs the weld. The welder shouldn’t care about the incoming line frequency.
I was more concerned about the control strategy of the unit being 50hz chips and power supply.
I’m sure it will work just fine.
Alibaba is a great site to get stuff cheap—extreme caution when buying electronics and equipment not specific to the US market.
You’re the electronic guy. What’s your take?
The ac voltage for control board is run through a bridge rectifier to convert to DC voltage, so the 50hz doesn’t matter.
Sounds like you got this. I do like it. Very nice.
All the control electronics are DC based, everything should work fine for a design like this.
I looked at that brand a year or so ago and just didnt pull the trigger as i was concerned about its longevity. I ended up getting a Midwest Fastener Eagle used. I hope it works great for you. The price was definitely right. Hanlon (studwelderaccesories.com) is a good place for studs. Nice people.
Update: Stud welder is working great. Here’s an 8mm stud welder to 3/16 flat strap. Took a hammer to it to try to break it off. It bent the stud but never broke off
Good to hear. Keep us posted. Stud welder is super helpful and speeds things up quite a bit IMO.
