Hypertherm vs. Razor Cut 45

I am currently running my table with my Hypertherm Powermax 380. It is 15 years old and only a 27 amp machine. I have loved this machine as it has caused no issues except for the torch but thats a different story. Anyways, I was wondering if the Razor Cut 45 is a comparable machine to the Hypertherm 45. What kind of tip life are you razor guys getting? Happy with the Razor Cut? I am a hobbyist, so I am questioning if I need to spend the extra dough for the Hypertherm.

I haven’t used the 45 on the table yet since mine is showing up tomorrow. I know the 30 is working out pretty well for Travis now that he has a good unit. I’ll be glad to let you know what I find out if nobody else chimes in.

You read lots of threads on here about issues with the razorweld cutter. I think they’re sub par grade equipment and really newbies should be aware of their issues. They’re half price of the main US manufacturers and I think in this instance you get what you pay for. Some have gotten by with no issues whatsoever but I’d be very leery

Several will jump in here an defend the razor weld but if you kept the last machine for 15 years, I’d buy one that’ll go another 15!

Maybe, but there are lots of threads about other ones too (although not Hypertherm as a rule). The primary issues with the RW seem to be the capacitor in the 30s and setup issues for the rest. The volume of threads may well be linked to their sale by Langmuir so they’re likely a greater % of the ones being used.

Hypertherm is a great cutter but for the occasional user you can buy an awful lot of steel for the price difference.

I guess it all boils down to what you want out of it and what you’re willing to tolerate. I agree to the fact that Langmuir offers them would also skew the results. I still would recommend steering clear of RW if you can reasonably afford it. I have been watching pretty closely because I was initially thinking I wasted lots of extra money but not after spending time on here reading. I’ve cut 30+signs out of my table on the same consumables and I’ve never had a misfire and they still look good. I recently switched to the fine cut to do some more 14 gauge. No major angularity AND I was cutting with a drag tip shimmed up off the metal stock. It’s a cutting beast. Yes it’s expensive but it’s a high quality piece of equipment. Not just being a fanboy of the brand

I use a Powermax 65 and love it. I put on a drag tip to cut my 4x8 sheets down then install the FineCut consumables for anything up to 3/16. Amazing cuts, no wasted cuts so far. Tons of customer support, consumables available 5 mins away, and the machine will cut massive thicknesses. I’m about to cut some 3/4” material for finger brake 20 degree dies.

I’ve had this machine for over 2 years before adding the CrossFire and it’s been amazing to use. I’m about to hack off the frame mounts on my Jeep and this will make short work of it. I would seriously check out the Powermax 45 for the etching abilities if I were going to buy another one.

45XP user here.Ive had zero issues with it.I started with the regular consumables then switched to fine cut…i would recommend starting with fine cut.

I went from a Razorweld 45 to a Hyperthem 45. Night and day difference. I had nothing but issues with my RW45, I tried two of them just to be safe. Each RW45 had different issues. I bought the Hypertherm 45, plugged it in and started cutting. I haven’t had an issue yet. It turned me being super bummed on my purchase, to loving this table.
