Hypertherm cutting good then just stops cutting (solved)

i am runnung my hyperthem xp 45 at 45 amps, 31 ipm. to cut 3/8" plate. It cuts great for 2 cuts then goes to the next part and won’t cut it. i stop and start it and it will cut fine and do the same thing.

looks like your duty cycle is limiting your cuts…try stopping or pausing your cuts…
could your compressor also be loosing pressure…like a blockage in the line?

messed around with it for a little and found the IHS was hitting before the work piece causing it to long arc and with not having the ground right on the work piece caused it to lose arc. I moved the torch down a little and put ground clamp on work piece and was working great.

here is how to set your torch…at least how I have done it…

take your torch out of the holder…
drop the Z axis all the way down to the bottom limits…
install the torch so the tip is just past the top of the slats…just a bit past
tighten the torch…

this will ensure that you never dip the tip into the water…and you get maximum upward travel…

and ALWAYS have your clamp on the metal work…not doing so causes the metal to arc to the slats…and fluctuating readings on Firecontrol
