How did you make the pattern? I am looking to make something similar for a floor vent that is in the middle of a restaurant. The pattern will need to be much tighter so a crouton won’t fall through. That was the request.

Thank you

If they make the croutons out of Texas Toast it shouldn’t be a problem.

I used the patterning function in Fusion.

I’ll export and post the f3d file you’ll be able to play the history and watch what I did.

highlighted was the sketch geometry I used

the rectangular pattern tool is located in the create tab.

with the highlighted sketch geometry I patterned it this out 4 one direction and 8 the other.

To modify the patterning after the fact you can find this icon in your sketch

Thank you for always willing to help. How do you get the patterns to be at the exact location as the one next to it? I tried opening your file and got the following error. I am planning on making my own pattern but just wanted to play around with yours.

When I get back to a computer I’ll try to redownload it and open it on mine.

There are several options in the patterning menu on spacing depending what end result you’re looking for.

I’ll see if I can show it with a simpler object that doesn’t obscure the whole screen

I got the same error with that file.
Here is a simple pattern to play with. If you right click on the pattern icon, you can edit the spacing. Allow your cursor to light up the pattern icon and then right click and it brings up the menu. Select “Edit Rectangluar Pattern”

Note: You will need to be in “Edit Sketch” mode for that icon to be revealed.

Is there a way to modify the original selection for the pattern so that it is carried thru in the pattern?

The only way I could get it to happen is to modify the original pattern down to 1 and 1 for the pattern, which basically removed all of the copies. Delete the pattern icon and then edit the drawing, reselect the section that I wanted to pattern and then make the new pattern.

If I grab a line and move it, it will carry thru in the pattern:

But if I add a new element, it does not carry thru (And it removed my pattern icon so the pattern is lost):

You may have to go back in the history in a modify the original drawing before it patterned

Once it is saved, I lose the history of rolling back changes for sketch elements. Perhaps I am doing something wrong.

Unfortunately there’s no detailed history for a sketch. You just kind of have to go back reopen that sketch and then adjust to how you need it.

Or are you saying once you save it you lose all of your history?

I am saying the first part…sketch history.

Then go back in your history before the pattern is made. Then modify your part.

Thanks Jim
I will keep playing with it.

not sure what happened to that file. I got the same error . This one works

In most cases adding a fillet to the body or component is a better option.

in this grille project I use a “rule fillet” to only create fillets and not radii.

And the bonus is the project is still parametric which is what @Sticks is alluding to I think?

Where do you learn all of this?!?!

Nice tip. Thanks.

Cut out a couple of these return air shoes for some furnace installs I did over the last couple weeks. These return air shoes fit to a 12 by 24 duct from a 20 by 25 by 5 filter rack. Unlike most factory bought shoes this has a radius throat as well as a heel.

And the other one.

there’s an interesting note the radius throat does more to promote good air flow then the heel radius ideally you have both.

Many of the ductwork changes we’ve done from the exist units to these new units where to lower the overall static pressure of the system

WE pair these high efficient gas furnaces with the RD17 heat pump by Rheem.

You keep showing justification for the XR size table! Very nice.

This is what I came up with for the floor vent. Took screen shot and put it in Inkscape, trace bitmap grabbed everything with no fixing at all. We will see if 10 gauge will be thick enough for foot traffic. High heals may be an issue though. At 14’'x6" the holes are over an inch big. Before I cut the customer will have to approve. Tin you are an inspiration to create things.

That pattern is very nice. Is it going to prevent the croutons from falling in?
