How to change pierce hight

Can I change the pierce hight in fire control using the THC in a cut file already loaded in fire control. I need a little more room so the nozzle does not get hung up and drag material. Thanks, joe

Adjusting your pierce height will have no effect on your cut height.

You can adjust your cut height in fire control.

And if you’re using your torch height control the voltage you choose to use if not smart voltage is also going to interplay here.

Pierce height and cut height can only be adjusted in your CAM software.

How is the nozzle getting hung up and dragging the material? It shouldn’t be able to touch the material when its cutting. Are you talking about the torch hitting parts that tip up after they get cut?

I believe when piercing it is leaving dross on my tip and as cutting the dross gets caught up on material I am cutting. When turning THC off and using .060 shim to adjust torch hight I do not get dross on tip cuts fine.

The file was supposed to cut a square with a circle inside. It got caught in the middle of the circle and drug the steel then started cutting the square and drug it again and thought it was finished! I included pics

How are you cutting with the THC off and manually setting the cut height? That is not possible with a machine with a Z axis, unless you post process your file with the cut and pierce heights set to zero. It doesn’t matter where you zero the Z axis, the program will use the pierce and cut heights in the G-code. Turning off the THC does not turn off the Z axis or the Initial height sensing functions.

I just saw your picture and something is very wrong with your cut settings. What program are you using to create tool paths and could you post a screen shot of your tool settings?

You’ll either have to edit your g codes with a text editor or you’ll have to go back into whatever CAM software you’re using and programming whatever pierce height you think will work for you.

I should have been more clear. I have 2 cut files 1 without the THC inabled and 1 with the THC inabled.

Ok thank you
