How long do consumables last and what consumables do i need to stock up on?

what do i need to keep instock on at all times for a PTM100 style unshielded torch as far as consumables?

will be cutting a ton of 1/2” plate ( a 4’ x 8’ sheet will yield me a 150 2’’x 8” rectangles with two bolt hole in each and ill cut seven sheets worth at a 1000 pieces an order.)

Thank you

I would change up to the shielded versions when you’re ready. They last much longer for me.

I would stock up on some 70- and 80-amp tip electrodes, swirl rings, shields, and cups.

Get in touch with George (@mechanic416); he has a plasma shop and only sells the highest quality products. With that being said, if it’s cheap, it means it’s likely of poor quality, i.e., Plasmadyne, Amazon, etc.

For cutting 1/2 inch and above, I would consider using a 10-gauge plate on the bottom of your water tray. The slow IPM and high amps will eventually damage your water table. Just my two cents.

Also consider the duty cycle trip. It may go or maybe not. Testing the limits of your machine will save you from screwing up a $500+ piece of A36. Also, ensure your compressor is up to the challenge. As for how long they will last, it depends on the moisture in the air and the amp rating. I cut 1/2 @ 60 amps with a 70 amp tip.

Thank you! i already got in touch with him waiting on a quote,

is there a big difference you see in the shielded vs un shielded?

what goes out first/ the most the nozzle, electrode, swirls rings etc?

For me, cutting A36 and aluminum, they last twice as long. I like to use a 10-amp larger tip. Of course, I don’t make signs, so the kerf width is not an issue.

duly noted thank you.

would 20 of each suffice?

Hell yeah…. George will love you…

Obviously, you don’t need 20 swirl rings or cups. George will set you up.

yeah i just did 2 or 3 of those each

I like having at least 15 electrodes and nozzles on hand, but have maybe 20 of each sitting on my shelf.

Also have 2 retaining caps, 2 shields, and 2 swirl rings since those items last much longer than the above.

My interval for replacement is roughly 1,200 pierces per nozzle and electrode combination, but nothing yet on the other parts as everything is still working like normal.

Like @Bigdaddy2166 said I know its tempting to buy the cheap goods. When I first started I bought a crap ton of Taiwan Erny tips off of Amazon because Miller is expensive, Some didn’t even work others lasted but not long and if your doing a nice piece and a tip fails mid cut you will then realize it wasn’t worth it. I threw probably $100 worth of consumables out. DRY AIR is very important for longevity. Happy cutting.
