Help with mill scale and slag

good to know I appreciate it

Well my friend can you share the speeds you are currently using on these two gauges of metal?

With my sync 45 with 1/8 hot rolled I am doing 88ipm for my fine tip

I think I am 220ipm for 14 ga

I use my cutting chart that came with my plasma as a good starting point

Thank you for your response

Don’t hate me. But we’ve been there. So about a year ago we dumped the Plasma Table and went with a 1.5 Kw Fiber Laser setup. We have cut down on post cut clean up by 90%. We will need to wash before it’s powered but the time savings in huge. Yes we spent a good amount of money on the laser, but that we can do with it is paying dividends. No slag, clean edges. We have been up and running now for 8 months and I would not go back.

My custom charts are saved on my computer but off the top of my head I’m about 110 to 120ipm on 1/8” steel, something like 150 or 160ipm on 16 gauge, running 50’s to 60’s on 3/16”.

You must create your own charts, using whatever guide you randomly Google or whatever guide came with your plasma cutter as a base. This is pretty much standard, and you will find that the cut chart gets you close, but not the best results. You find your own with adjustments.

I use a drain pan for under a washing machine. Huge area, shallow depth

I disagree vinegar does a great job loosening dross so that it falls right off of the part.

Just wanted to clarify a couple things. From your wording (and I may be misinterpreting it too) it sounds like you’ll have both the orange dust collector, and a shop vac (pulling through the hf separator) hooked up to the cabinet?

Yes I have a orange dust collector that came with my cabinet and then the Harbor Freight dust collector that goes to a 5 gallon bucket

That all has to do with how old the mix is, how strong the mix was and how long you let it soak.

Gotcha. Yeah all you’ll have to do is just modify that collector a little and you’ll be set. I think I may have had to move the latches when I moved the brackets, but all in all, pretty minor job.
