Hello from eastern South Dakota

Hello everyone, hobbyist, former metal fab engineer reporting in (10 + years ago).

Bought a crossfire pro to add capability to my side hustle shop. Looking forward to getting my table finally operational. Table is together, with thc and limit switches.

I was going to use my everlast 164si mulitiprocess welder for my table just to start out with, but am realizing I better run a dedicated plasma cutter and getting the thc connected to the 164si is very nightmareish looking.

Welcome to the forum!

Many of us have the Crossfire Pro. If you have the financial resources and have not yet settled on a plasma cutter, I really like my Hypertherm 45XP.

If you looking for an economy cutter lots of folks have RazorWeld, or Everlast and are happy for the money they spent…or ā€œdidn’tā€ spend.

Look at the compatibility chart for some ideas:

Just a bit of a correction on the compatibility chart, I see that the Hypertherm 45XP is no longer listed. All others have the model number and then the Sync version like: ā€œ65/65 Syncā€. With the 45 it is just showing Hypertherm 45 Sync. Is this just a typo @langmuir-reilly ?

thanks for the welcome.

Nothing wrong with the hypertherm…just outta my budget for what I need. I’m in a deep debate with myself on 82i cnc or the 62i cnc for my side hustle. I think that most of my work will be 1/2" and less but it would be nice to do thicker stuff for local mobile welding crews that dont have cnc capability.

decisions decisions…

The folks that have the Everlast are generally pretty happy. BigDaddy will definitely agree with either choice. If you are doing the majority in the 1/2" side of your scale, I think you will be happier with the 82i. Compare the duty cycle and the pierce capacity. It is nice not to need to do ā€œedge starts.ā€ I am sure either one can pierce 1/2".

My unit pierces 1/2 inch but it gives you pause while it is doing it!!!

Leaning towards the 82i even though likely more of my work is going to be less than 1/2 inch i think. the difference between the 62i and 82i is like 150 bucks.

I already have a ipt 60 hand torch from my 164si and the hand torch mount that came with the table…this is really why im leaning towards going with the 82i

I’ll throw in that you will never be unhappy with a unit that has a larger cut capacity. We run a RW45, and it will struggle, but cut, 1/2" when needed. That’s about the limit. If we need to cut thicker, we’re making calls to another fabricator that has a Hyperthem 125.

End of story - if the 82i is in your price range, it’s a no brainer…

So interestingly enough…I have a line on a prime weld cut 60 brand new in box for 550 delivered to my door…

Pretty dang hard to not pull the trigger on it especially as I’m just starting out on my side hustle…and the difference in $$$ could go towards a press brake…

Edit…

I decided to pull the trigger on the cut60….at 1/3 the cost of the 82i and no sales tax it was a no brainer.

This will get me running until I know for sure I’ll have the big stuff to run and I still can use my ipt60 torch and consumables on either torch.

My Cut60 has served me well… I am strictly a hobby user. Some day I would like to upgrade to a better cutter. It cuts 1/2ā€ fine but you will be hitting the duty cycle on bigger stuff.

Happy cutting!

I’m a little late on this sorry, the Hypertherm 45XP is just listed underneath the Hypertherm (Discontinued) tag since Hypertherm just released the new SYNC model last June. 45XP is still compatible and is an absolutely valid choice for a plasma cutter with our machine.

Thanks. I figured that out yesterday. I understand the list now. It just gave me ā€˜pause’ since that is my plasma cutter.

I don’t want to be cutting with a contraband piece of equipment!
