Has anyone spliced together a stepper motor cord?

I’m developing the drag chains on my CFP and needing the Y-axis motor cord to be longer. I have the other cables routed as I want them and think the easiest thing to do will be to cut the end off the motor cable and the end of an extension cable, then solder the wire colors together. What could go wrong?

Langmuir got back to me on the subject writing this:
“It might be easier to replace the motor with a different one that has a longer cable. The CrossFire PRO Y-axis motors are NEMA 23, 284 oz.
Alternatively, the soldering method that you are asking about should work just fine.”

The “soldering method” is simply cutting the ends off the two cables and soldering the wires by colors.
