Greetings from Sheetcam Customer Support

Greetings. I’m a 3 year user of Sheetcam for milling and plasma CNC process. My machine is not a Langmuir brand but rather a hybrid DIY w XYZA axis. I’ve joined your forum to offer assistance in the Sheetcam category. I have been working part time for Sheetcam Customer Support since June 2024, in addition to handling most custom post processor requests. I bring 3 years of practical experience with CNC plasma process and workflow driven by Lightburn for CAD, Sheetcam, feeding a grbl-v1.1i 4 axis controller. I use Fusion360 for engineering drawings where sketch constraints and sheet metal modeling w bends/flanges require close tolerance dimensions. I admire the plethora of expertise and assistance that his community brings to bear for all that follow the forum seeking to solve or improve their plasma CNC process and experience. I’m otherwise largely retired after 40 years of EE and IT programming and consulting professional career. I enjoy running a small fabrication business using mostly wood and metal materials in addition to many artsy-crafty projects. I use PrimeWeld and Hypertherm welding and cutting equipment.

Hello. I’m a new sheet cam “tire kicker”… can you install a lifetime license on 2 computers at the same time? I have one in the shop and one in my office…

@FabricationPlanet - thanks for your patronage, and good question, we get that a lot.
as a new user, here are a couple of tips to note…

  1. sheetcam is licensed for use on 1 computer only. but…
you can operate sheetcam unlicensed on as many computers as you desire, but post processing is limited to just 180 lines of gcode production. So, do your CAM design on unlicensed installs, save the toolpath as a job file (menu File-‘Save Job’), send the file to the licensed sheetcam computer, use menu File-‘Open Job’, and then File-‘Run post processor’ from the licensed computer. Note: the Toolset used during CAM design is saved in the job file, so its available on any computer that later opens that job file.

However, if you truly desire to use sheetcam for gcode generation on an additional computer, you’ll have to purchase another license at www.sheetcam.com, see Store page.

We use Sheetcam and are looking to machine a second Z attachment or a side head for a 60 watt Co2 laser… The Z touch off for height may need a datum block if cutting material like leather etc? Someone may assist and point this to some threads related to laser applications for XR?
Happy Holidays Ken

@autotech - you may consider a separate thread for your topic, there are many considerations beyond sheetcam that come into play on that project

Just out of curiosity, you guys offer military discount?

@Kwikfab - I’m sorry we don’t.

Dang that’s a shame.

Probably because it isn’t a US based company.

Makes sense, I don’t know anything about their company outside of their CAM software they sell.

Not sure if I can post this or not but you can try the software with the trial license, even for large cuts. You just need to break down the post process into bite size chunks to stay under the line limit. So if you are cutting 5 parts for example, put them in different layers and create a post for each layer, sounds a pain but that’s what we do for the Mr1 (for different reasons)

But I believe once you try it you won’t go back and will pay for the license. Different if you design in fusion, may as well use that but for anything else sheetcam is the way to go. In my opinion anyway. Once your tools and rules are set you can create your post in seconds, literally. Plus it has built in basic shapes you can size to your requirements to avoid having to draw anything.

it is well worth the $150. even if it is more now it is worth it. and i draw in fusion. sheetcam is way better for post.

Just buy it and use it. Nothing that free is any good. Old Les worked hard on this platform and deserves to make his return.

That’s what I said. But people are going to want to try it before handing over 150$

I completely agree. I have a copy, but I’ve never used it. I’m a Fusion guy and have never needed it. However, if you’re a sign guy, it’s perfect for you.

Yeah that was my whole reason for not buying it.

I figured if I could get it cheaper, sure. But since I’m a parts guy quickly making my g-code in Fusion, I’ll pass.

I do about one sign per year.
