Fusion 360 2d geometry contour selection -- change direction?

When running simulations on just about any file I create, it seems that fusion makes the inside contours cut counterclockwise, where the outside contours always cut clockwise.

I’ve gone through some of my old files and they all cut clockwise, whether an inside contour or outside. Did something change along the way with fusion?

Example:
I make a square with a circle inside, extrude it, do the machine setup and then go into the cutting menu. While I can move the arrows generated either inside or outside the line, I cannot find how to change the direction of the cut. Inside cuts are always counterclockwise and outside final cut is always clockwise.

I am assuming that it is always best to cut clockwise with a plasma… just guessing though.

In the 2D profile menu there is the passes tab which has the option for sideways compensation. Sideways compensation for plasma cutting should be left 99% of the time this will keep your clockwise counterclockwise direction correct.

It depends whether it’s an inside or outside hole this will determine whether you’re running clock wise or counterclockwise.

The way I remember it (and been told numerous times), your best cut will be on the right side of your cut.

Think of you in a car driving the torch: the good edge will be on your right side.

That’s a good way to remember. The picture above kinda tries to make that point by labelling “scrap”, but it’s easy to overlook it.

I used to work in Japan a lot. If I got a rental car, I’d have to remind myself at every turn at an intersection, “center line on the right!”.
