FireControl Compatibility Version Download Location

Where is the FireControl Compatibility version download located?

I’m running FireControl on Windows in VirtualBox on my Linux computer. FireControl runs fine except the visualizer window is blank and I get a message on startup I need to run the compatibility version due to incompatible graphics.

Therefore I have to reboot into native Windows to run CrossFire, but this is inconvenient with all my design tools running in Linux.

It would be nice if FireControl would simply switch out the visualizer window to the compatibility mode visualizer window if “incompatible graphics” are detected. It seems this would be far simpler than supporting a parallel version of FireControl.

It can be found at this location:

That’s my question, where is the compatibility version download link? I haven’t been able to find it anywhere including the Langmuir downloads area. Thank you.

I may have to try a different virtual machine that uses the gpu directly, unlike VirtualBox.

I did not explain that very well.

Let me start over. This is how the download page used to look:

I circled the one you will be looking for. It is version 21.1.5-compatibility

My conclusion is the they have removed the plain jane version of 21.1.5; and just left the “compatibility” name off since the new current version supersedes it. Back then, they had to tweak the current version. The current version is obvious a few versions along: FireControl 24.1.6.

That version is still available on that download page linked above. So I would say 21.1.5 IS the one compatible with older graphic cards.

Perhaps @Langmuir-Johnny or @langmuir-jake or @langmuir-zachary could weigh in on this. (Sorry guys. I can’t remember who is monitoring the forum.)

Hi Jim,
Thank you. I did download the earlier version and installed it as you suggested but still got the incompatible graphics message. I’ve put a message in directly to Langmuir through their support system. I’ll post what they say back. Again, thank you for your assistance. I really appreciate it.

I’m sorry, but ditch Linux. Buy a mini PC that will work for the table. You are just complicating this whole project with this computer. Buy a mini pc that is running an N95, N100, or N150 Intel chip. No Ryzen or I series Intel chips that have a U, H, or V after the chip designation. Good luck.

Current price for the N-150 processor Bee-Link $169.99

Adjustable table: $3 cheaper than what I spent. Currently $39.99

3 inch PU swivel Wheels: $18.99

TeckNet USB mouse. 4-level DPI settings (1000/1600/3200/6400)

As mentioned in the graphic, I am trying to eliminate any extra wireless signals. That Bee-Link has 4 USB ports. I am using one for the mouse, keyboard, connection to the Cross-fire Pro table and one free for a memory stick.

The monitor can connect to one of the two HDMI ports on the Bee-Link.

With the 3 inch wheels, I really like the height of this table for standing. The table is on the light side so I loaded up bricks on the bottom by adding a piece of 3/4" plywood spanning the distances, therefore, not relying on screws going into ply(whatever)!

I used a monitor and keyboard that have been in the closet (too good to throw away). So my set-up only cost about $250.

But Kevin, I am not really trying to talk you out of your Linux computer. I will let the Langmuir people give some input. Maybe they have a solution.

Thank you for the suggestions. I actually have more than ten computers. I just don’t like booting back and forth between Windows to run FireControl and Linux to make cad adjustments.

On a fun note, I cut these today (including holes for 8 mm bolts) on my CrossFire table and bent the brackets in my press brake after heating the metal in my kiln to 1000 degrees to help get the crisp bend in each 3/16 inch piece of mild steel without stressing the metal. These are going on my truck tomorrow as mounting points for a roof rack. The 7th piece of each set is an extra.

Pick one of the ten computers that doesn’t run Linux or is a Macintosh. These will only add another level of problems. Most people that run Linux are Windows haters. Unfortunately most of this Langmuir software is designed around it. Good luck.

I’m actually a Windows programmer. After spending all day looking at Windows I prefer something different after hours. Langmuir is advertising a compatibility version that I expect should work in a Windows VM on Linux so I don’t have to leave a Linux environment entirely to run FireControl. I run my laser cutter this way. I’m just wondering where the compatibility version is so I can use it. It’s a simple question, but I haven’t been able to find it on Langmuir’s website. Hopefully Langmuir will have a good answer after the weekend. Enjoy your day!

You got this.

Going to be honest I’m not 100% sure why we removed the compatibility link on our downloads page and I’ll look to get it re-added/clean up the page a bit if I can. The 24.1.6 version in theory should supersede and replace, but we have been seeing some rare instances where the compatibility version works but the new version does not.

In the mean time I’ll leave the assets link here as it still exists on our website, just not as a clickable link: FireControl 21.1.5 Compatibility

Hi Zachary,

Thank you very much for the link. The compatibility version loads just fine in my Windows 10 Pro VirtualBox without the incompatible graphics message. Next time I use my plasma table (maybe this weekend) I will try this out.

Hopefully your next release will work fine for everyone whether they would have needed compatibility mode or not.

If this helps I’m running Windows 10 Pro in VirtualBox 7.1.8 hosted on Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon. I believe VirtualBox still only supports OpenGL 2.1 natively, I’m happy to help whomever is working on FireControl get the issue resolved so everyone can use the latest version.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the information! I’ll relay this to anyone looking to use our software in a Linux environment in the future, especially if you come back with good results.

Is there a current 24.1.6 compatibility version download link?

I don’t think there is a compatibility version of 24.1.6. That version is supposed to work with systems that previously required the compatibility version.

If it doesn’t work on yours, you’ll probably have to go back to the previous compatibility version

Tied 21.1.5 and still get the Compatibility message on 3 different computers.

I ordered the Beelink that supports windows and it just hangs when setting up a Reference PIN. So, returning the unit.

I have admitted before, I am not that computer savvy. Either it works for me or it doesn’t. I would likely do the same that you are doing.

Others are likely to have a better understanding of what the issue was with your attempted install. Perhaps you needed to put “NumLock” on or off on your keyboard?
