Factory Tooling Projects

Currently working on building some new tooling for our shop and decided to post progress here since most of the parts will be made using the CrossFire!

The first tool is a custom turntable with the ability to raise and lower using a pneumatic cylinder. The CrossFire package gets wrapped in shrink wrap which helps to keep everything contained. Wrapping the packages is currently a slow and cumbersome process and we believe our cycle times will be greatly improved after this tool is implemented

Basically, this tool will be placed in the gap between two conveyor rollers. Once the package is centered over the tool, the cylinder will pick the box up off the conveyor so that it can be freely spun. Here is a picture of the model:

I’ll also be building a second gantry assembly fixture so that we can decrease our production time by 50% (currently the bottle neck in our factory). Here is a picture of the model:

Very cool. Thanks for sharing this kind of stuff. I’m just starting to get into metal fab and I find it extremely interesting.

Had some time to get the parts for the turntable cut out today. These parts are 1/4” steel and I cut them out with the vipercut 30 at 25 ipm.

When you have an oversized sheet of steel on the table like that do you need to clamp it down in some way or just make sure it’s flat and balanced?

It just depends. The plate was stable before i started cutting out the nest of parts, but i threw some clamps on it anyway so that it wouldnt fall off after the end i as cutting on got a lot lighter.

Got the turntable welded up today, i think this will work great.

Looks great. How about some action videos?

Today we are going to try our best to get the new packing line up and running. Once that happens, I’ll post a quick video of this tool working!

We got our new packing line running today and it went very well. The turntable/lifttable worked great! Our guys were joking that the machine being lifted built the machine lifting it.

Heres a few pictures of it raised and lowered

Now that our packing line is finished, The gantry assembly is now the bottleneck in our shop so I have transitioned to building a 2nd fixture. Below is a pic of the plasma cut parts that go into the fixture:

I was able to complete our second Gantry assembly fixture today! Gantry assembly has been the primary bottleneck in our production flow. This fixture (coupled with the signifigant improvements to our packaging line) will help to increase our daily production rate.

Got a few more tooling projects to complete with the CrossFire so stay tuned!

Looking good guys!!! How many units a week do you think this is going to add to your current output?

the last post I saw they were at 120 shipped out for the week. that’s up from 40-50 the last time I checked.
