That is the truth!! I had a 4d foam plane for a little while. I crashed it more than once. I kept gluing it back together… each time the flight characteristics changed a little bit… till one day I was flying it out in our back filed and the motor and prop ejected from the body of the plane. :joy:  The crash was pretty spectacular! My kids got ahold of its replacement before I could even get it in the air. :grimacing: I decided to take a break from the RC aircraft hobby till my kids get a little older.

I was going to say till they were old enough to not destroy my stuff… I suppose my dad would probably say that won’t happen till I no longer have stuff to destroy.  :joy:

I moved this conversation, I hope people don’t mind.

Locally, there is a group that is helping to introduce the sprint boat racing to the United States. I guess it started in New Zealand in 1981. It’s advantage is that a track can be developed on a flat piece of property. I don’t believe the water is any deeper than about 3 feet.

The owner of the “Wicked Boat” is an acquaintance. Some years ago I asked him “how much does a boat like that cost?” He said “About $5 grand but the motor is another $5 grand and up.”
Later I found out that his motors are in the $50k to $100K range and can be destroyed in one race!

Here is the Wicked Boat with Dan Morrison driving. He goes so fast that it is split seconds to determine the correct path! He owns the track, btw.

I think I would get lost in the pattern. I cant figure out how they know which way they are supposed to go.

I have been told before but I think it goes this way:
There are 7 or 9 different patterns of the race course. Everyone has the track and the patterns before race day but they don’t know which pattern will be used until that morning when it is drawn out of a “hat”. At that point the navigator commits it to memory and needs to point the way.

The navigator is very important.

it’s my opinion that there are no cheap hobbies.

Just different levels of interest.

I can fly a paper airplane for pennies.

Or I could cut metal shapes out for a few dollars with hack saw, and a file.

OR, we could spend "many thousands " of dollars for either endeavor.

Good luck either way, I love seeing the advancements, and ingenuity of all involved !!!

:+1: :beers: :beers:

EDIT: @Kwikfab I am jealous…thats an awesome pic!!!

I hope that is sarcasm.

I get that against jet RC planes and race boats it is cheap, but my Becky has expensive taste in clothing, and is not cheap to feed, especially now with the mystical unicorn powder discontinued (RL26), finding her another stable diet…ouch.

Becky and Sandy (left) at a 4" 400y and 6" 600y plates (on the horizon - trust me) past the 200y paper.

Don’t even get me started on expensive hobbies. This was our last hit of the year and it was an expensive one.

Heres another angle.

I love stock car races. I have never seen drag racing but quite certain I would love it as well. I am not the type that like crashes but I love to see the power of those machines.

God damn, what are you trapping?

I haven’t run my Vette on the track in awhile

5.30 and 260Mph
