I wanted to share what I came up with for my press brake for bending small pieces of metal I cut out on my CrossFire table.
The Swagg Off Road Press Brake kit recommends stacked angle iron of progressively smaller pieces, but this is expensive when you have to buy minimum lengths at the metal yard.
Instead, I bought one 1/2" square bar 20 feet long ($20) and one 1/4" square bar 5 feet long ($9). Cutting this metal to 19" lengths, I get these spans to support bending metal:
No square bar: 4"
1/2" square bar: 3", 2 1/4", 1 1/2", 3/4"
1/2" plus 1/4" square bar: 3/8"
Of course you can buy less metal up front and cut pieces to maybe 12" or 7" (adding more later to combine for the 19" press brake width).
The bolt on guide works with all spans from low to high setting.
Here is a description of which pieces to use for each span:
4" = no square bar
3" = V of 9 1/2" square bars
2 1/4" = V of 7 1/2" square bars
1 1/2" = VVV of 10 1/2" square bars with 2 more on top
3/4" = VVV of 10 1/2" square bars (pictured for my bends 1/2" from end)
3/8" = VVV of 10 1/2" square bars plus V of 3 (1/4 inch) square bars on top
Enjoy!
