Dross with Crossfire Pro

I seem to be getting a lot of dross when gutting 16 gauge with a crossfire pro. Im using a Hypertherm 45 cutting at 160ipm. Hypertherm recommends cutting 16 gauge at 45 amps. Is that to high or is my speed not correct? Just wondering if anyone has suggestions. Thank you

What consumables are you using?

Standard or fine cut?

Standard a 220941 is what they recommend for 16guage I have cut 18 gauge with a fine cut and that seemed better. But I haven’t seen a fine cut for 16 gauge. Unless I could or should just use the fine cut that I used on the 18 gauge

What are your current cutting parameters?

Are you using values straight from the book?

160 seems really slow for a hypertherm at 45 amps. You should be in the high 200’s.

No I haven’t been going quite straight from the book I have been going off a friend that is running the same unit but I think I can go back to a unsheilded fine cut. I did read the chart wrong. And maybe I should speed up some

Try a cut 270 to 280. I cut 14 ga at 250 with nice cuts.

Thank you. What cutter are you using?

Hypertherm 65 cutting a 45 amps

Ok any tip you like to use that works for you?

The only thing I would think of you may need to tweak it. I usually make a small square with a hole in it so I can adjust kerf and speed if needed. So I don’t waste a lot of material. No two systems will cut alike. Depending on power supply air supply and stuff.

Looks like the book wants 250ipm with shielded standard consumables
