Does anyone have any advice on why the left side of cuts gets dross but the right side doesnt? And im not talking about back and front. Example: if im cutting a circle and flip it over to the back…the right side of the circle has very minimal dross but the left side has a good bit?
pictures help…
here are some possible issues
but dross on one side is due to the circular flow of the air from the plasma.
Makes perfect sense. Another question…How tight should i draw the bolts that hold the torch on the THC? I had it pretty snug and the heat shield/retaining cap would unscrew with movement. So i loosened it so it would be able to rotate without unscrewing.
Your mounts should only be on the body of the torch, never on the retaining part for the consumables.
Could you post a picture of how you have your torch mounted?
@tinwhisperer is right on the money, as usual, clamping to the cup can stress the torch and cause problems with the safety contact pins on the cup
The only way to mount a hand torch is by clamping the retaining cap. That is the main reason that using a hand torch is a bad idea on a CNC table. It should be tight enough to keep the torch from moving around. Leave enough slack in the cable and orient the handle so that it doesn’t move the handle when the table is in use.
I just assumed the OP had a machine torch. But you’re 100% right he likely has a hand torch.
I wonder how many issues are suffered from having a hand torch mounted by the retaining cap.
My 3D scanner was delivered yesterday. Maybe I should start 3D scanning some hand torches then we can design a mount that grabs a hand torch without clamping on the retainer?
Clamping buy the retaining cup has never been a good thing it causes all kinds of trouble. Years ago we always clamped by the torch handle off a (L) shaped bracket.
Langmuir is sold out of machine torches for the RW45. Do i have any other options, compatible machine torches?
Get a Machine torch mount. That will clamp on the plastic part of the hand torch, rather than the cup.
With longer bolts I have my Cut60 hand torch IPT-60 clamped above the retaining ring on the plastic and it works great that way.
I also have a Hypertherm 30XP but haven’t tried clamping it above the retaining ring yet. The Hypertherm hand torch would always rotate on me with the standard mount holding the retaining ring.
I was thinking that would be a good cheap option as well. Thanks
X45 machine torch, what one would you like 20’ or 30’ PM me.
