Desiccant Dryers

The canisters are just for the desiccant. I have a cooler, and Motogard filter at the plasma. In Nebraska right now, 80s and 90s with 50% to 100% humidity.

I don’t get moisture droplets past the first desiccant trap. Any vapor still in the air gets caught in the second trap (never seen color change on those) and definitely not past the filter.

If you have a line on retired medical equip, then go to it. Some of us have to make do with what we can afford.

This one?

Desiccant system with regeneration would be awesome

Dme015 yes that one

I would check into some of these consumable filters and how much they’re worth to replace you can kind of figure out what your maintenance cost might be.

Checked into filters already, OE replacement filter is $300usd each, AliExpress is $30usd each shipped.

New desiccant media is $40 Amazon

@MechanicJon I’ve been doing a little research and that’s an awesome machine. it’s ultimately made by Parker which is a huge manufacturer of refrigeration equipment. top notch stuff.

Here’s some maintenance manuals on that machine.

Please keep us posted once you start setting it up.

There’s one more available if anyone is interested. Shipping might be costly. But compared to the price of a new machine ,+ shipping it’s a good deal

It is flat-out unbelievable. It doesn’t matter what chart or manual or even 20-year-old stuff. Within 5 minutes, he has it uploaded to the Forum. I shake my head every day.

I was thinking of asking him if he had the little pamphlet manual that comes with the digital timex expedition watch from the 80’s.

The problems are:

  1. He probably does; and
  2. I don’t have the watch anymore and he might ask questions about it

@Sticks

I use something similar…but here are some things I noted on your setup…

  • you are using PEX and it looks like 1/2"…that is very restrictive on air flow…upgrade to 3/4" and reduce the fittings
  • make sure you reduce your hoses and couplings…if you do not need a quick connect then remove it.
  • residential water filter units are not rated for high pressure…reduce your air pressure to 100psi going through the cannisters…
  • not sure how close to the compressor you are…but the air should be room temp going through the beads for better action…

Fist off This forum is amazing. I just got my XR assembled and powered up. wiring for the plasma cutter next week. reading this makes me think I may need to change my set up a little. Running Quincy QT-54 with a whip to the HTP max air Desiccant dryer (2qts of desiccant). After the dryer I have about 30 feet of 3/4 line. Thinking of putting a motor guard right before the cutter or trying the copper line cooling before the dryer.

@FSFI Mike, welcome to the forum…
So…I suggest you put the 30’ of pipe after the compressor…good choice 3/4"…put it on a slope down towards the plasma…then put an automatic water trap…then go through the desiccant…and then through a motor guard…
I always suggest a motorguard to protect the plasma from air particles and desiccant particles that can get in the air…protect the plasma…

as for the copper line cooler…you can use 3/4" PEX if you like…but the 30’ of line will do the trick…

Thank you!
Definitely go put the motor guard before the plasma. And will consider relocating the air dryer. I may go A copper/pex line cooler before the dryer If I don’t relocate it. I put in the Rapid air system so all of the compressed air is dried right now, which now I see could be hurtful as much as it could be beneficial in terms of possibly having to change out the desiccant more often.

Details in my post here.

Suffice to say I’m getting cold air going into those desiccant traps. Yesterday was 102° inside my trailer, after 20 minutes of running that plasma cutter the airlines were still very cool to the touch.

My air set up on XR, 3/4" x 40’ max airline right from air compressor tank to filter system then 1/2" x6’ airline from motor guard into plasma cutter. Haven’t had any moisture issues for past four years.
