Cutting 1/2” plate

I have a cutmaster 80. I’m cutting 1/2” plate. Getting real bad bevel cuts. Don’t know how to correct.

Cutting at 10 ipm. Voltage at 80. 75 lbs air. Also cuts two pieces than stops to cool down.

Any suggestions???

Voltage seems low probably making cut height to low. Hypertherm 65 says 135 for non sync. I would use higher voltage or smart voltage.

Edit I guess you meant amps was 80. What is the voltage showing? Have you confirmed your cut height?

I cut 1/2” steel at 18ipm and nominal voltage is 141 nominal on my Xr table with a Hypertherm powermax 45 xp plasma cutter.

your speed is to slow for 80-amp cutter and cut height is too low. Adjust these two settings and should have better cut quality.

I’m not sure which torch body you have but in the manual this is what it gives for the consumables you should be using and the cutting parameters for half inch plate with those consumables. These are from two different cut master manuals I’m not sure exactly what model you have.

The cut master similar to the sink has a extremely high stand off cut height. The cut chart also shows them running at 3 1/2 times the cutting speed you’re currently running.

How long are the cuts from these two pieces?

There is several versions of the cut master and these units have duty cycles between 40% to 80% at 80 amps. And at 10 inches per minute you’re gonna be hitting that duty cycle pretty quick for larger parts.

Which version of the cut master 80 do you have and how old is it? If it’s dirty or you have lower input voltage both these things can also reduce the duty cycle by quite a bit.

I have the SL 100 torch that fits in the XR.

I tried cutting speed at 20 ipm. Seems to fast.

I cut 1/2 @ 60 amps 23 IPM, 1.4 pierce delay with an Everlast. 10 IPM is way too slow.

What consumables are you using with that torch?

What version of the cut Master 80 do you have? The standard single phase cut Master 80?

What cut height are you currently using?

Are you using exposed or shielded versions of the consumables?

In what sense? Are you experiencing some adverse effect that’s more so than the extreme bevel you’re facing at lower speeds?

Could you post the cut file for your current project that’s giving you issues?

Define really bad. Post a picture. We talking 1*, 5*, 15*? Is it always on the same side?

Even perfectly set up machines with the right settings will still get some bevel, nature of the beast.
