okay so i added a flange to attempt to unfold, it wont let me select a bend line. i didnt tell it to bend anything when i made the body. i used the method tin reccomended on my other project with a sketch to flange.
Okay I think I finally get it, you are trying to create the the notch on something that is not a flat surface?
yes! its a curved body, forgive my lack of terminoligy
You will have to select the surface of the body then project the surface of the body onto another plane, then sketch your notch on the projected surface then extrude the shape through the body using the cut function.
Sorry I totally misunderstood what you were trying to do.
From the look of the pictures, he is trying to create a tab and slot type connection between two parts and wants to use the part with the tabs to cut the slots in the other part to ensure alignment.
I donāt use Fusion, but in Freecad this would be done with a Boolean cut, using a copy of the body that has the tabs. A copy is used, since the body would no longer exist after the Boolean operation.
but if the plane isnt the same curvature of the body then the lines wont align correctly
or if someone can explain how i can sketch on the curved face, will also work
Check out this video.
And when I met back at the office I can walk through more with some screenshots of your actual build.
Even though this video is talking about text you can use the extrude tool in the same way with the objects you have there
I believe it means the flat pattern of the curved surface is larger .
I see the issue now. Sorry I misunderstood what you were trying to do.
This is above me knowledge level.
I am interested to learn the solution.
Love your designs, I am excited to see it implemented.
i did it! i used the extrude feature. first i projected the sketch then i extruded the diamonds through the curved body.
then for the tabs i sketched those onto the face of the flat body, used combine⦠done!
you guys are awesome! learning more every day
Itās weird that Fusion 360 on my end will allow me to make a flat pattern out of a curved surface without any flats?
The extrude feature works excellent when you make sure to pick the object you want it to come off of and like you mentioned above that the image is smaller than the object so it fits in its boundaries.
That is going to be one crazy ass truck when youāre finished it.
Lol thanks man. Iām looking forward to it!
