i have a cut 60 plasma with .9 40 amp tips just wondering if anyone could tell me the kerf size cant find it in the manual. thanks in advance
It’s going to depend on the material you’re cutting.
If you can’t find a chart, run a few test cuts and measure it. You’re probably going to be around .06 on 10-16 gauge.
On a brand new 0.9mm/ 40 amp tip the orifice opening is about .034". So your kerf/cut will be a little wider. As the tip wears the kerf will get wider the longer you use it. Keep this in mind on bigger projects.
Test cut a 1" square opening (inside cut) with a nominal 0.050 kerf setting. Measure the square. If the opening is smaller than 1.00" then your kerf setting is too large. If your opening is larger than 1.00" then your kerf setting is too small.
Adjust your kerf setting by the difference divided by two. Should be pretty close after that.
Example, after cutting you find the opening is actually 0.972".
Difference is 1.000-0.972 = 0.028.
0.028/2 = 0.014.
Subtract 0.014 from your kerf setting, kerf setting: 0.050-0.014 = 0.036
I’ve settled on a .050" kerf for my Cut60 and 0.9mm tip for 1/4" and thinner steel. Works for me.
Actually it’s easier to do it with a no-offset cut. Then the square size will be 1" minus the kerf. The hole will be 1" + the kerf.
