Consumables question

This last weekend I could not get a decent cut using a Razorweld 45 and a Crossfire. According to FireControl, these consumables have 433 starts and 45 minutes of cutting.

Is this normal wear on consumables with 45 minutes?

Those look pretty bad.

A couple of things to consider without putting you on the spot:

  1. Be sure to buy quality consumables from a reputable dealer. I have Hypertherm so I only buy Hypertherm brand now. I tried a knock off brand tip/nozzle and got no more than 45 seconds of life out it. So if your consumables are cheap/knock offs, 45 minutes is exceptional.
  2. Air supply. You must have sufficient air. There seems to be color that your nozzles have turned that my indicate that they got really hot. If you got past the hafnium core of the electrode that could happen and it could damage your torch. I am not saying that is what happened. Others will weigh in on this.
  3. Moisture and impurities in the air will destroy the consumables at a much faster rate. When the torch is burning, that plasma stream is well past 25,000 degrees F. If you throw a spec of dust or water in with it and it hits the nozzle, it is like a cannon ball colliding with the orifice of that nozzle.

I would definitely change those
However, getting that many pierces and that much cut time from a single set is pretty good in my opinion

Those are in bad shape. Consumable life is highly dependant on air quality. The drier your air, the longer your consumables will last.

I’m running a Hypertherm torch with genuine Hypertherm consumables and generally get over 1000 pierces with those.

Thanks for the input. Regardless of bead color, I’ll change out the desiccant before the next cuts.

The Razorweld 45 has a built in regulator. I’ll see if maybe it’s adjustable to increase the air flow. I’ll also increase the pressure in the shop air loop.

I’ll be buying replacement consumables direct from the Langmuir web site. I’ll also purchase some less expensive ones and run a comparison.

It is adjustable but alot of people ditch the internal one and go external. George (Mechanic416) can hook you up, here is a link to his ebay shop.
