Connecting an old laptop to use at the table

Here’s what I’m doing, been taking my really nice laptop out to the shop to run the table but I have an old beater laptop that I want to use at the table. I have installed Firecontrol but I remember needing to create some place for the G codes to land and it seems as though when I originally set this up it was in the instructions on the Langmuir site. I can find the instructions and it mentions making a folder ? but I don’t know how to do this. If I have the G codes on a mobile drive do I even need to do this step….?

If you have the cut files on a usb drive, you can just plug that into the laptop and open the files from there.

That’s how I’ve been running my table for 4 years. I keep my mini PC disconnected from the Internet to prevent any unwanted updates and transfer the files with a USB thumb drive.

Yeah, I just tried that and it worked so now I get to gather all my files and put them on the portable drive. Thanks…..

Exactly my method. Have my mini mounted on the rear of the monitor. One USB for mouse, keyboard, connection to LS controller, and the last one for USB memory stick for my files to be cut. Keep my “good” laptop in the house most of the time.

I have the monitor mounted on an old HF welding stand. Nice to be able to roll it around.

FYI, I tried using an older Dell laptop to run my table. Even though it possessed the necessary specifications to run Firecontrol and the LS controller, the graphics card caused issues with freeze ups during cuts. Took me a while to come to that conclusion after eliminating a lot of other possible causes.
