Good to know bud, thanks!

Regarding your wife and the welding tower. Whoever said she won’t notice, that you’ll be the one to spill the beans is spot on. My wife didn’t notice my reloading bench for almost 2 years. Granted it was only about 10"x30" and mounted on a wall in a cluttered shop, but it did have a big red progressive bolted to it, so it wasn’t subtle.

I’ve enjoyed following your mods. More than a couple are ones I’m now considering too. You’re quite the productive maker.

Well, the Argon finally arrived, and man, TIG welding is a really STEEP learning curve. My attempts at 6061 aluminum is worse than pitiful, I mean it’s BAD! A buddy just told me to forget aluminum for the while and practice controlling the puddle using steel, then when comfortable with that, start all over with aluminum.
Here’s somepics of the rig …I dare not show the first aluminum attempt :grimacing:
Meanwhile, back to watching TIG videos!

Can confirm  I wouldn’t recommend starting on AL either lest you take a baseball bat to your new welder on day 2. Also, watching videos of pro’s tig’ing leads to feelings of great inadequacy - pro’s make it look way easier than it really is. Takes TONS of practice (or at least it did for me) to reach the “good-enough for me I’m not x-raying my welds” stage. Where’s the grinder and paint? lol

Rig looks FANTASTIC, though! You’re going to have a great time with that!

I see that fancy door in the background. Are you sure you’re not at @felich 's house?

That leads from our garage to the kitchen. That’s the entrance most used at our house. Once in, keep going straight past the kitchen, laundry and then you’re in the Man-Cave where all the cool tools and machines are located. … you may even find me there sitting and cussing as I try to get this TIG thing down!

Isn’t it fun  I love tig welding. You will get it it just takes time and a good teacher to help you along. But if you need some guidance please let me know and I will try and point you in the right direction.:roll_eyes::rofl:

Any help very much appreciated. First two beads on mild steel was cery controllable, easy to get the hang of that.

Very first attempts at mild steel. I can get the hang of this easily:

My Aluminum welding however, I would say needs some work:! :flushed:

I like the fridge in the room…lots of cold wobbly pops…

watch you heat levels on mild steel…it will warp the metal so fast you will be shocked

Wait, isn’t this the essential ingredient to any well appointed workshop? I know even @GunTruck1776 has one for his goats (and random visitors) in his workshop.

Looks about right for first try! You’ll be stacking dimes in no time!

Kinda like how silky smooth the process feels when DC welding. But I need hearing protection, since the wife keeps coming into the shop asking me to come help her do stuff in the house!!

I agree, AL is super tricky. I generally go with the push-pull gun in the Lincoln 350MP when I can, but I have done ok AL TIG welds, but nothing I’d like to show off!
