I have had my crossfire for almost 6 months now and I love it. My current laptop is a dell Inspiron 5520 with a i5-3210 6gb ram 64 bit. I have had it since 2012 and it has gotten me through engineering school using solidworks student.
Lately I have been wanting to cut some more intricate signs for customers so I purchased already drafted dxfs from the website cncdxffiles.com. These files seem to be all splined and are virtually uneditable in when trying to open in fusion 360.
So the company I bought the files off of recommended using svg files.
I’m almost thinking it’s time for a new laptop anyway. I have been looking at the msi gf63 9th gen i5-9300 8gb ram 256gb ssd with a dedicated graphics card. On newegg.com for like $700.
Anyone run into similar issue, or maybe even running the same old beat laptop I am. Or maybe have a recommendation for a laptop that’s better for around same price?
If you’re doing essentially 2D work (AKA Signs), then scrap Fusion and use Inkscape to edit and design and then SheetCam to do the tool paths. Your life will be ever so much easier and happier. Inkscape is free, natively uses SVG files, and our resident expert provides superior classes in it (right @num1husker?) SheetCam costs you $150 one time and it’s worth every penny.
Oh, and I should mention that combination will run on practically any PC developed in the last 5 years without groaning.
Tom is right I used fusion for awhile and at times it s**ks, I use sheet cam the stable version V3.1.17. However, their newer development version V6.1.74 is out of this world, a real CNC game changer. A ton of new features like scan anything and a g-code is automatically created and ready to cut. The version is still in development but you can download the user guide, which explains alot of what they have developed so far. You need to go to sheet cam web site. Fireshare uses V6.1.38, which great too.
According to SheetCam website the current stable version of SheetCam TNG is 6.0.30. I didn’t realize that the Linux version is ready, does anyone know if the license is the same? The purchase page doesn’t distinguish between them.
Go to www.sheetcam.com click on downloads and get the free 180 bit version and download it. Open it and under Help clk to open , clk on help window . I was mistaken about the stable it was 6.1.30 however the user guide is 3.1.17, I purchased the software from Langmuir. Also I sent out a e-mail to sheetcam and one of the editors told me of the features they are trying to develop for V6.1.74. When it is finally done I will buy it and use it. They think by 2021 it will be ready. Your question about Linus is on the same page in downloads/www.sheetcam.com…
I got a new HP lap same thing I can not get 360 to work right I think it do to everything try they on scanning can not turn them off till I can find them I do like 360
