Brass tank fittings on the xr

Trying to understand the point of the two brass tank fittings and 1/4" NPT plugs. Obviously you can’t drain much water out of so small a hole without it plugging up. And since the brass isn’t even threaded to accommodate a garden hose I’m thinking it was never intended to be a drain at all. I am building my new XR, just installed the two brass fittings, and would like to know the original intended purpose and how anyone is using them. Thanks. Terry

Those are in fact the factory drains. It’s often one of the first things folks modify… but they do work as intended.

I ended up changing my two drains out for four full size strainer baskets.

I used the 2 factory drains to fill the table.
I added 4 2 in drains in the center of each section

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply. Do you have any photos of you table and how you did what you did? I’m taking my time on this water table, am in no hurry to get started cutting metal, and am impressed with how many good ideas are out there. After 26 years surrounded by CNC lathes and mills in my own shop, and always being in a hurry to make employees and customers happy, I can take my time on everything. Would be happy to “talk” further with you. Your '41 is my idea of a good time too. Terry
