Best Cutters For The Money 2024

I guess this is the age old question, when it comes to first time plasma cutters.
I’m hoping to get some current insight from the group here at Langmuir Forum.

My name is Adam and have a new small business that offers mobile industrial services that include metal fab & welding.
I’ve been looking for information on cutters that are cnc capable with a quality torch set up.
I would like to cut 3/4 base plates occasionally.

I have a local seller that has offered
a once used 6 month old Hypertherm xp45 for $2000.
Also in consideration is the Primeweld Cut 60 and Everlast 62i.
I have a few questions.

  1. Which is better unit, Primeweld Cut 60 or Everlast 62i?
  2. Are there any other quality machines in the mid price range (40-60 amp up to $1500) that are not made in China that are worth getting like USA ,Italy, Taiwan, etcetera?

Thanks in advance for any imput offered.

@A-TEAM Welcome to the forum

Hypertherm All day but the Everlast 62i and Primecut Cut 60 are good machines too.

I started with a Everlast 60s and later bought a Hypertherm . I feel it was a good investment.

What is the average thickness and inches per cut will you be doing ?

Duty cycle may become an issue here depend on the length of cuts you are talking about.

Actually 3/4 cuts will not be needed but 5/8 × 12" cuts would be very handy.

I own a PW Cut 60 and it’s good, but that sounds like a heck of a deal on the Hypertherm. That’s my vote for what you listed.

I’d probably offer a little less on the Hypertherm, especially if it comes with a hand torch

I got my 45XP brand new (well used, but new in box and never used) with the $200+ pack of consumables all for $1800.

It was that, or going with a 45Sync which is the latest version out

The 45Sync with CPC port and machine torch will put you at about $3.1k - 3.2k

A 45XP with CPC port and machine torch will put you at $2.8k

If the 45XP you’re looking at comes with a hand torch, and you opt to add a machine torch, that puts you at basically “new” pricing

You better start looking at the 80amp and up. 60a would work, 45 will lead to frustration.

I agree with @Sticks on this one. A 45 amp machine, Hypertherm or not, will be a (Damnit, I should have gotten a 60 or 80 amp unit) moment.
5/8 plate will be a duty cycle trip knot in your stomach every time you cut a more significant part. Just my two cents again.

I’m thinking the 62i is what I will go with.
Thanks for the replies.

FWIW - I have cut 1" with my Hypertherm 45xp. By hand, not on the CFPro. It will do it, but it is

S L O W. One can flame (oxy/acyt) cut much better and faster on the thick stuff with a sub 50a plasma.

Now, I love spending other people’s money. I would spend a couple hundred dollars for the 82i and never look back. The 82i ( depending on your shop voltage) will run 7 to 10 minutes before the dreaded duty cycle trip. It may not seem an issue now, but it will only be when you have a $200 piece of 5/8 A36 on the table.
