So, i had recent binding in the lower part of Y1 Ball Screw Rail area, Im trying to figure out what’s happening and why the machine is binding up in just that one spot. I recently had the ball screw assembly replaced due to the tiny screws holding the plastic cap rusting out on itself. I also noticed a lot of gunk slug stuff inside the ball screw area. That had caused the tiny little balls to spill out. Once we replaced the Ball screw part I noticed only 5~6 balls were in the housing. Any recommend idea on how to resolve this issue.
Looks like rust to me? Is there any lube on the ball screw?
You need to protect the screw / add lubricant. CRC makes a nice spray on graphite dry lube (good for keeping “weld spatter” at bay), but it doesn’t do much to help “fill the gaps” that can cause backlash. Super Lube Silicone is what I add to the linear bearings of my 3d printer, been meaning to but haven’t gotten around to trying it yet.
@Zeseffes welcome to the forum
Are the felt wipers and lube cap installed on your machine?
In the instructions it discuss the port being filled, capped and felt wipers been fully saturated . Was this done?
I use lithium grease on the ball screws and silicone lube on the rails.
Sorry for the late response on the post. I’ve been busy trying to figure out issues the machine is running into possibly due high heat wave that I’m located at and near 8 Hour workday use on the machine.
The Felt Wipes are saturated, and the fill spot is also lubricated with WD-40 Lithium Grease Spray. As I check the inside felt wiper the front (Outside) Felt wipe completely ripped in half with the small tug pressure. I can only assume that the screws were too tight on the assembly forcing the wiper to get caught up into the ball screw spot.
Can you send me a link to the Silicone Lube you use either an Amazon link or Hardware store if Langmuir allows it in the forums. @TinWhisperer
Also want to thank Johnny for helping out on the Tech support hotline. Has been extremely helpful throughout the year with machinal issues the Plasma Machine has run into.
