Bad consumables

I do not have to post this, but I think it will help a lot of people having trouble with misfires and not arcing at all.

Got a call the other day from a person having trouble with his plasma cutter misfiring and then not arcing at all with the hand torch or machine torch. We tried a few things that was not it and I ask him to get his ohm meter to test the torch’s. As it turned out he did not have one so he said he would get on then call me back.

Well today I got the call and we tested both torch’s and they tested fine. Now the plasma cutter was a Razorweld 45 with the original hand torch and the machine torch was a PTM 60 he bought from me. Now most people on here knows I sell only Tecmo consumables from Italy.

So I ask the person to change the consumables on the hand torch and he said all he had was some used ones, I said that was fine. Changed out the consumables, plugged in the hand torch and it fired every time. So most likely the electrode was bad.

Next I said to change the consumables on the machine torch and he said they were brand new ones he got from me. I told him I don’t care change them anyway. Well after changing the tip and electrode the torch fired every time.

Here is a case even quality consumables can be bad and cause misfires and no arcing.

I would recommend that everyone keep a known working set of good used consumables for testing.

Hope this helps some.
