Apollo has landed and am getting some seat time on it! So far everything seems awesome and can withstand heavy use! Super pumped with the accuracy of this thing as well. I drew up a small 2”x2” square with a 3/4” center hole….. I’ll let the pictures do the talking from here ![]()
Explain your air supply setup, or are you using Nitrogen? The unit looks great and appears very accurate in cutting.
Currently im running UHP oxygen. I plan on running this because I plan on cutting 1/4” plate with this for a product that I make. Eventually I will get a screw compressor to run for aluminum/stainless air cutting.
Thank you for the update. I have Ingersoll Rand screw compressor but it’s max is 150 psi. My brain is still contemplating an Apollo.
Will it cut polished SS?
I’m sure it will. I thinking ![]()
Laser cutting relies on absorbtion of the intense light beam into the material. A polished surface will reflect some of that…
On a smaller scale, Diode Lasers have trouble cutting white materials including even paper.
All my stainless steel has laser plastic on the polished side.
I have order 103426 so I can’t wait to get number 5! They are saying hopefully by the end of the month I should have it. I plan on running O2 and N2 cradles for mine then as I need more capacity I might switch over to cryo tanks.
I’ve read a lot of places that your best quality cuts are with O2 or nitrogen, and not compressed air. I would love to see if that is true or just internet BS. Did you get the auto focus head?
There is so much I want to learn about the Apollo but I don’t want to overwhelm you with questions. I’ll spread them out over time. hahaha
That is true to an extent. With O2 on mild steel you get a blue flamed shiney edge with no dross when your machine is dialed in. With compressed air, you’ll get more of a “frosted” flame edge with a slight burr on the bottom side of your cut.
How long does a 300 series bottle last? Obviously you have a pallet of them.
It all depends on what you’re cutting. But for me, I have two 300 bottles of UHP O2 tied together and I’ve been cutting everyday for the past week and I’m only at 1700lb left in them
That’s not bad at all. What do you think of Nitrogen? I am considering but, don’t want to buy a 10k compressor.
O2 is low pressure gas and nitrogen/compressed air is high pressure. So with nitrogen you’ll be ripping through that faster. Currently with O2 I’m only using 3.5-9psi of gas depending on what I’m cutting. Nitrogen/ compressed air is around 7-14 BAR (100-200 psi) while cutting.
Could you post some cut parameters when you get a chance or did Langmuir provide any for you to start at?
What are your thoughts on the enclosure?
Removing / Storing / Replacing the side panels seemed cumbersome to me… Maybe it is not a big deal….
any videos?! would love to see it in action!
I do have videos. For some reason it will not allow it to let me post them here. Check it out on the Apollo Facebook page as I post it on there.
It’s not bad honestly. Especially when you get it dialed in and have a whole sheet nested, its nice to be able to put the doors on and let it run
